96 civic ex.

Can you repair a moonroof switch? Can it be opened?

It pops open up, hard time going back like the button is bottomed out, so going back will work once and awhile.

I've never attempted to repair a switch since it's usually just so cheap to replace. $5-10 should get you another used one. They don't commonly break.

Where are you finding a USED moonroof switch for $65? They're listed as $55 new from Honda even!

I see one on eBay right now for $15!

Seriously, where did you get that quote of $65 for a USED switch, like I mentioned?

If you go to a local junkyard you'll likely find them for cheaper, or check the classifieds on this site or others.

Any '96-'00 Civic EX (coupe/sedan) or Si will have the switch. If you need the light gray switch you'll need to get it from an EX (coupe or sedan) and if you need a tan switch you'll need to get it from an EX (sedan). The dark gray ones come in the EX (coupe) and Si.

So why don't you buy a used one as I suggested? Switches don't often break. Yours is broken and will require effort that stands a high chance of failure due to lack of experience and parts.

yes you can. ive done it. there is two little strips of metal that are contacts and they should be in the shape of a V but over time they get flatened out and ur switch stops working... take them out re bend them or replace them and ur switch will be fine.

all that holds the switch button on is two plastic nipples all u need to do is pry the sides a little so it clears the nipple and it will come off easily. then once off youll see what i mean. if ur metal contacts are in real bad shape this will be a temp fix. i heated mine up and dumped them in water like a black smith would.. i dont recomend that as i dont actually know if it helped but im still on the first switch so something worked. defitnatly rebending it fixes it but with any metal if u keep bending it it weakens every time.

I had a foglight switch we disassembled because it sometimes wouldn't stay on. Iirc there was broken plastic in it when we took it apart. I suppose epoxy might have been able to repaired it but I just got another one for $5.
