Default Can my igition wires be bad so soon again?

96 Civic EX

About a 1 and 1/2 I had autolite wires on the car say a year, the car developed a severe miss and the wires were bad.

I replaced them with Honda's from the dealer, they are stamped prestolite?

I am having the same problem about 1 1/2 year later again similar signs of a miss.

I just did the cap and rotor and stock NGK plugs.

Problem got slightly better, but still running rough.

Can it be the wires again?

side note the cap looked fine for say 80k miles, not wet from say oil, no carbon, no tracks, no dust.

TBH I don't recall ever hearing about Prestolite wires. Summitomo are Honda OE wires.

Marc, what do you think? They seem decent, boots do not come apart like some crap ones, and fit dead on as well.

Def from the Dealer.

I'm not qualified to speak on them. I only have used OEM or NGK wires on my Hondas. I think you can test them somehow.

I know you can with an ohm meter. I might just pick up a set of NGk's and throw them on. I will say this, if that is the issue, I am going back to the dealer and making a complaint.

I just called the dealer and they pulled another set, those say Prestolite as well.

Maybe Prestolite's are poorer quality?

I would have flat out told you prestolite doesn't supply OEM wires for Honda till I saw this. http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...2-P2F-A03.html

Any OEM wires I ever saw or bought were Sumitomo and they basically last forever. NGK makes nice wires that work almost as well. Most other stuff is junk, the boots melt in the head for whatever reason.

Ive always had amazing results with ngk blues... however I know of a friend who is running OEM wires on his EJ and almost 300k so I wouldnt assume they could go bad so soon.

Don't care if they aren't. I never had a problem with them.

When I called they said that Honda switches suppliers, such as Sumitomo and Prestolite etc.

I still think they are honestly. I can't tell the difference.

you can test the wires with a test light to see if any spark is escaping becuase of small cracks or holes. Just turn the car on and pull the wires out one at a time and run the test light up and down the rubber boot. if you see any spark come out or see the test light light up then there is a crack or something that is allowing spark to escape. This could cause a miss. just a suggestion.....

You can use an ohm meter to check for resistance, there is a range they're supposed to be in but I can't remember off the top of my head what it used to be. You can also spray a fine mist of water on the wires in the dark with engine running to see if you get any arcing.
