what kind of adjustments? I don't know much, I just know I need a catalytic converter and I'm trying to save money by buying used - which is hard to find.

the cat from a 96-00 civic may be shorter or longer than one from a 01-05 civic. if I were you i'd just take it to an exhaust shop and have them put it in. or keep looking for a 96-00 one they really aren't hard to find.

Or you can get a cheap high flow. They are $50 or less. I payed $50 for one and paid $50 to have it installed since I had it all ready just needed to be welded in

Are you talking about the catalytic converter fitted into the exhaust manifold like this?

Based on this thread:
http://www.7thgenhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5698

...other options come from different generations of civics. one is the D16Y8 intake manifold found in the 6th gen civic EXs. it fits...almost. you will need a dremel to dremel out two of the bolt holes wider. you could pick up a skunk 2 intake manifold for the same 6th gen civic. but not only will you have to fix the bolt holes... you will also need to cut the firewall. << not a good choice.

With that information, we can assume 7th gen exhausts have wider holes than the 6th gen, thus wouldn't fit.

What you could do is look around for an EX header from a 96-00 Civic EX model, get a new catalytic, and do the conversion.

edit: modifying based on HondaPartsHero's link
Since the 2001 Manifold won't fit, that's not an option. The O2 sensor on our Civic's are very sensitive, so you'd need to be careful with the catalytic and O2 Sensor. Why do you need to use a 2001 catalytic converter anyways? Is your current one clogged? Cracked? You don't have one at all? If your problem is with the secondary (downstream) o2 Sensor there's a trick for a few bucks that I've used and works, here's the tutorial and explanation: http://www.6crew.com/forum/showthrea...-an-o2-CEL-Fix!

The code my cars throwing is a PO420 with that code on an 04 civic, the only fix was a new cat. My manifold doesn't have any cracks so that's not the problem and there aren't any leaks.

Check the link I posted above. I gutted my cat, bought a new o2 sensor from RockAuto and did the spark plug non fouler trick. Everythings fine now. If you dont have emissions testing in your area I recommend you do as I did or else youd be needing another exhaust manifold and o2 sensor anyways.

All 96-00 Civics have this type of cat EXCEPT the 96-00 EX & 99-00 Si. Theirs are under the car after the downpipe.

This ^
Hatchback: CX/DX (D16Y7/D16Y7)
Coupe: DX/HX (D16Y7/D16Y5)
Sedan: DX/LX (D16Y7/D16Y7)

If it's a Canada/CDM Civic, their Civic trims are equivalent to:
USDM LX=CDM EX
USDM EX=CDM SI
USDM SI=CDM SiR

The coupe/sedan EX & the coupe SI have this kind of exhaust system:

Pic I posted above in previous post, and in this post taken from this link:
