Default Can anyone help a guy(amateur) out with his coupe

So last night i drive way out of town to celebrate a friends birthdaywith no problems at all, when i left i noticed a loud whistling sound and the tranny will not catch once it warmed up so the car will not move in any gear or reverse. Its an ex automatic Z6 so

A. What the **** happened?
B.Ive really been wanting to swap it to 5 speed but whats the ballpark price of swapping it.

check your flex plate. Trans most likely toast, but if you have a spare flex plate and torque cnv. here is your chance to use it.

As for the manual swap it ran me about $1200 to do mine, but i also went "all out" with it since i set my car up for a K24 swap at the same time.
Im sure you can rig up some non-oem semi ghetto rig setup for cheaper

Well i recently came across a guy who has a d16y7 in a 98 coupe, but its auto which sucks, and i only need the tranny but idk maybe i should hop on it he wants 500 for everything but would that auto tranny bolt into my coupe and then i could possibly tear down the motor and build it for a mini me.

I'd hold off. I'm pretty sure (not positive) that the trans are interchangeable, but the Y7 most likely has a bit taller gearing...so you'd be even slower. Not that you can do much with an auto civic, but it's kind of pointless unless you really don't care at all.

I'd say forget that guy and look into 5sp swaps, your auto trans is toast from the sounds of it, though I can't say I know enough about auto trans's to properly diagnose it, but now is the perfect opportunity to get on the 5sp train. You can probably get it up and running, all extra costs accounted for for < $600 or so. Depends where you find the parts, how hard you look around, etc. Definitely seen them done much less than that.

PS: By the mini-me will be weaker than your Z6..by the time you buy his whole setup then do that you'd be paying more than you'd pay for a regular Z6 or B7 manual trans

PPS: The trans will most likely bolt up, but I'm not sure if you'd need a different mount due to the generation change..they changed some mount(s) - can't remember which...it might have only been the driver's side, so it might fit fine..blah, can't recall .

it may be alil slower but it would get great gas mileage.. if u want another auto id say go for it. if u were doing a 5spd swap i would look forward to a z6 or y8 tranny.

Well thanks for all the help, I have ultimately decided that im going 5 speed, I found the whole conversion for $400 minus the ecu and the auto to manual mount.I am just curious, the swaps coming out of an a 97 civic lx coupe, should I have any issues with fitment?
