ok well i got this engine bone stock but i wanna know what the top speed is because it only picks up to like 95 mph and i wanna know if it has a chip or a sensor that wont let me go any faster can someone please help me...

Top speed topics are lways doomed because you get some really ignorant morons that post ridiculous speeds, and then you have people that bust in with the arguments that driving so fast is retarded, etc. etc.

First of all there is no definative answer for "D16Z6 top speed" because there are too many factors such as what transmission, wheel/tire size, what chassis, etc. etc.

I'll say this:

The top speed of a stock D16Z6 when bolted to a stock Ex/Si tranny is usually an indicated 125mph or so, and is usually achieved in the very very top of 4th gear as the 5th gear shift usually accelerates no further or even slows down in some cases depending on the grade.

I don't care if anyone else wants to post and argue about this and it being "my boy did 140mph y0!" 10-15mph or so isn't going to make a difference. The bottom line is that 95mph is not even close to the top speed. Nothing else is relavant.

Lastly to the OP either something is wrong with yuor engine, or you got a JDM ECU with a speed limiter, or you have some super long tranny that the engine cannot get past 95mph in the higher gears.

I'm sure there is an ECU guy that can post a pic of the motherboard for a JDM ECU and which part is the speed limiter.

I do NOT wan to see this turn into a moral debate on why the OP should or should not be driving 95mph+ - let's just keep it tech related.

speed limiter on a honda is typically 110-120. so you're not hitting it.
the ECU reads the speed sensor (VSS) and disables the injectors when you hit that speed. It's not a part in the ECU.

92lx4door - make sure you have the right ECU, the right trans and no CELs.

my guess, you have the wrong ECU and are actually not actuating VTEC. (this is in your LX correct? - the P06 ECU will run out of power around there on the Z6)

Anyways perhaps the idea of telling a guy how to drive faster than 95mph doesn't sit well with you, but if we help the guy find out that he has the entirely wrong ECU then we're also helping him get the engine running correctly at all spedds.



OP your ECU should be a P28 - there will be a long part number on the side of the ECU, with the middle 3 digits being the ones to pay attention to. If yours says P06 then you are still running the stock non-VTEC LX ECU as Relic stated. the middle 3 digits need to be P28.

BTW we need more info:

5-speed or automatic?

Stock car, or you swapped in a D16Z6?

etc. etc.

should be 120MPH. with the stock D15B7 and automatic tranny. I used to run a '94 D15B7 automatic sedan. It very definately cut out at 120MPH.

Well I'd assume that too, but his post contradicts that when he says "stock engine" and yet he's talking about an EX/Si D16Z6 engine.

I'm done trying to help on this one. I should have gone with my gut reaction and just locked a damned top speed topic to begin with. If the guy doesn't even know what engine his car has, or if it's stock or not, then I cannot expect him to be able to follow simple instructions to actually try and troubleshoot a problem.

i guess that didnt really help huh? my bad. yeah, it has a cut off/ speed limiter/ gov. whatever you want to call it. But i dont really understand, like B18C5-EH2 said, if its a stock 92lx, it should have a 1.5 in it. if it does have a d16z6 in it, then sum one put it there.

hmm, i know the p28's shut down at 150mph, but with it being a 1.5 and automatic it'll probably go 125 or so.

I have owned a few 28's and never got shut down at 100 or below that sucks.. ..

my 94 civic coupe with the 1.6L vtec, everything is stock on the car goes 115mph. i hav not gotten it any higher and that is on pretty flat ground
