camshaft seal..cannot install, please help me.

I have a 1996 honda civic. I am in the middle of doing a timing belt change, but I am also replacing the camshaft seal. I already destroyed one. Any ideas how I can get the camshaft seal in place?

thank you

Its best to get a plastic or rubber mallet to hammer it first of all. And you want to use something that is about the same outer diameter as the seal, like a large socket. That way you can get it in even when you are pounding on it. The most important thing is to make sure you are getting it in square because if it starts to get crooked you can bend and ruin the seal, again. Good luck https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I usually use my 32mm axel nut socket to put over the seal and I just start tapping it in.

Thanks everyone...your advise helped. It told me not to touch the cam bolts.

I discovered that somehow I mixed the cam and crankshaft seals. As soon as I discovered it, the seals went in without too much difficulty. I used my fingers and used a socket or the end of an 1/2" extension rod to tap in the rest of the seal. Funny, both look exactly the same with very very small difference.
