Default Cams and Valves

I am thinking about installing higher compression cams into my B16 head, and i dont know wat cams i should use! I just installed CTR pistons in my B16 block. i was wondering since i have to change my valve springs, retainers, and seats for higher compression cams do i have to change my stock B16 valve to a titainum or a ITR Valve? I really appreciate the advise!

dont know about springs and stuff but i would suggest toda vtec killers if its vtec. they are expensive but sound awesome and give alot of power. if not that i would say do the skunk2 stage 2 cams. good luck.

he wants to say when tuning the cams to specific degree, the idle won't be smooth and obviously more fuel consumption.Thats normal, you can't just get power and deny streetability.if you need power,go for skunk2.No stress.

lumpy hi idle you mean low idle thats lumpy cause of to much overlap, but what are you duration and lift specs on those stage 2s couldnt be that much to cause that its not the pro series ... why did that guy reccommend those cams .......

Cams do not give you higher compression. Replacing your pistons, have the deck milled, running a thinner head gasket, ect, will yeild a higher compression. Upgraded camshafts will open the valves more and let more air enter the combustion chamber. Unless your car is a all out track car, you just need a slightly more aggressive cam such as Skunk2 stage 2. Now dont go out and buy the most aggressive cam you can afford (Toda vtec Killers) because that completly defeats the whole purpose of having a street car. But i would reccomend dual valve springs with a stage 2 cam, but since your probably not revving to 9k, you might be able to get away with stock springs.

yea i understand that, wat i ment by wat i wrote earlier was that i wanted more aggressive cams that wat i have in my stock b 16 head! I have a B16 motor with Civic Type R pistons, i had my block honed, decked, and my block n my crankshaft balanced which can allow me to rev to 9K+! My block is complete, and i have every thing for a ITR head except cams and cam gears! i have a Skunk2 pro series TypeR intake manifold, 70 mm billet throttle body, ITR Valve springs n retainers, upgraded fuel injectors, feul pressure regulator, DC Sport header and a OBD1 GSR ECU chipped with Hondata s200! I really appreciate the info yall provided me, thanks alot!

I would be careful revving to 9+k on a stock head... but you mentioned you have everything for an ITR head... anyways I have a b16 head too with ITR valve train, so you should at least build the valve train to with stand those revvs... not sure what everyones opinion is but i've heard good things about the blox cams...

best of luck with your build!

Titanium valves will run about $1,200-$1,300. You'll also need to run lash caps so the tips won't mushroom. It'd also be best to run some trick valve seats versus OEM. You should know all this though if you're thinking about running ti valves.

Just put some ITR cams in it.

You've already screwed the break-in.

no way stock springs can handle 12mm lift. revving to 9k or not.

definitely... please don't run stock springs

ITR valvetrain is sufficient for your 9k revving happiness.... but if my memory serves me right power isn't made past 8800 anyways...

best of luck!
