I've narrowed it down to these two cams for my Y8 head. I know the ZEX 59300 is preferable, but it's imperative I pass smog. I'd rather not pay someone to illegally pass me, and I'm fairly positive I won't pass with the 59300. Probably a better chance with the 59100, and the Skunk2 is designed to pass (awaiting CARB EO number).

I can't find any specs on the new Skunk2 Stage 1, so does anyone have any idea how aggressive it is over the stock cam? The 59100 is slightly more aggressive. The Skunk2 is about $140 more, give or take, but Skunk2 also has them in stock. I've tried calling ZEX to see about their availability, but no one picks up the phone. Last I heard, the ZEX cams were on backorder.

I'm leaning toward the more expensive Skunk2, but that's based on results from DOHC owners. Can't find anyone who has tried it on his/her SOHC yet. I'll be getting dyno tuned with my VAFC with either cam.

Opinions please!

wwow they finally got the skunk2 cam out it took enough time. did they also get the intake manifold to. i had the zex stage to it was realy nice but then i blew the motor and got a b series

i remember hearing somewhere that the skunk2 stage 1 cam is about as aggressive as the 59300. i emailed skunk a while ago and the said that the stage 1 should be about 10 hp gain, with gains increasing as you mod your engine more...i wouldnt get the 59100- im pretty sure its only slightly more aggressive than stock and might not be worth the money, but thats just my opinion.

Thx for the feeback. I've thought about it and decided that I'm going to go with the Skunk2. If my shop sticks to their original quote, I'll buy tomorrow and hopefully have everything before next Friday. And thx for bumping the thread.

For the Skunk2 Stage 1? $398.45 plus tax. Not too bad.
