Default cam gear issue.

i have a b18 in my hatch and i just changed the timing belt and tried to fix the tkiming because its was off when i got the car. me and my buddy have done it atleast 6 times already and with the marks going straight up pn the camgears, the ones going across do not line up and vice versa.. is it possible the cam gears are/were machined wrong? or is there something we are missing and not doing properly.? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

lock your cams when put in your timing belt. it has a hole where you can put a screwdriver to lock your cams.. it is located near the cam gears..
