Default Cam Cover

I just painted my vavle cover and decided to take off the cam cover (D16Y8, SOCH) and I was wondering is it ok to take it off or should I put it back on. I know Honda has it for a reason, im guessing to keep dirt, moisture etc off the belt. I see a lot of DOCH guys with there cams exposed but not many SOCH's.

you don't want to expose your timing belt cover period. Something gets in there will either cut your belt or get pulled into the cam gears and slip the belt and you better hope your engine will stay in one peice.

Yeah I know it's rarely that something will happen, but my friend was trying to clean his engine with a cover off engine running and the rag got pulled into the sprockets almost pulling his hand in there too. Timing skipped bent valves and engine was done. I've see squirls living inside the engine bay you just never know.

ditto. I haven't had one on in 3-4 years... If you're talking about just the upper cover, you're fine unless you're a clumsey guy that drops bolts and **** in random parts of your engine bay....
