Default CALLING ALL B16 HYBRIDS!!!..are u happy??

just curious to know if the men and women out there are satisfied with spending their hard earned money on B16 swaps for their EF's, EG's, and EK's?? i'm gonna do it soon and i just wanna make sure i'm gonna be satisfied with it..eventually it will be boosted..but i want to know if for the meantime while its N/A am i gonna be like "F**K!! 3g's down the toilet"..or like "heyyyy nowww.."??..i really just want to know if when i turn that key for the first time and pop open a real VTEC not my D16z6's vtec am i really gonna feel like money well spent...?...i drive a EJ1 by the way..

Your not going to have any torque. Give or take it will feel like your Z6 off the line. But once you get top end then its a world of difference.

Honestly i think there the underdog B series motor. Thats kind of why me and my friend are going to build one for his EF. Ill tell you this when i first got my GSR swap i lost to a stock B16CRX. So that could give you some insite.

best bang for the buck imo, daily driver at least...had my swap done for about 2.3k....thats with all the belts, waterpump, seals, clutch, oil pump, b-new dc 4-1 header,,cat, exhaust piping and magnaflow oval muffler. its like night and day in my vx. don't really like the gas mileage...went from a 40mpg to 30mpg.....overall very good swap....no headaches to swap almost no modifications needed except for the exhaust. i would pick it over the b18 swap any day simply because of the $1500 price difference. just my $0.02.

I think he means the b16 considering thats the threads title? jk

I have been researching for a swap and i steered away from the b16a2 because of the things said around h-t about it being torqueless.
This thread may turn me back around we'll see.

if you want to drag race alot then by all means consider the b18, but if you are the type who doesnt step on it at all the stop lights you come across then i say consider the b16. The b16a was meant for the eh chassis, it is by no means a hybrid when you swap it back to the chassis it was supposed to be in in the first place.

American Honda Motor Co. sucks ***!

I had a B16 back in 98' and it was cool.. Back then it was the motor to have... Then I had an B20 VTEC and that was a world of a difference.. Now I have an SR20det and I must say I love it.. B16 is a wonderful motor and it sounds bitchin switching over on the vtec lobes!!! Much nicer sounding than a B18c1..

Plus if you ever feel like you dont have enough power or torque you can always boost it and make up for its small size

Well if you have a hatchback, the torque really doesn't matter.

If you have a coupe you will be a little dissappointed at launches.

The torque only matters if you have some weight you need to pull around.

^thanx
When i was thinking b16, i was going to save on the motor and spend on more parts for it.
If i went b18 it would be a vtec motor, and no parts would be in the budget.

thanx again

I used to have a 99 civic si, and the low end was weak cuz it was a heavy coupe. When I drove a b16 hatchback, it was quite a difference. The weight difference makes the launch fast enough. If you don't care about vtec the b18b is the better choice. But I like vtec I can't lie.

If you drive mostly city non-vtec is fine, but on the highway vtec rocks, you can pass so much easier. Non-vtec you will feel like people are laughing at you when you pass them.

i rode in my friends ctr swaped hatch compared to my ls crank gsr with skunk2 stage2 cams the low end is horrible lol. 1.8 is the way to go i always loved the b16 but you cant beat the torque of a b18

well u guys seem pretty content with ur b16's i'm sure i will too..i've been pushing my Z6 for almost 5 years now so its def. time for a change..and o yea boost is def. gonna come after the swap about 6months later..i'm shooting for low 13's and high 12's.. which i feel will be pretty easy with a turbo b16 in a 93' coupe

Let's say it's 1975 and you're presented with a similar choice, shall we? Can you be happy driving a 305cid Camaro? Sure. Would you be happier driving the base model 350cid Camaro? Absolutely. Would you be ecstatic driving the H.O. 350cid Camaro? You bet your ***.

Think of the 305 as the B16: it gets the job done and you can modify the **** out of it, but you'll still have to give it a healthy bump to compete with even the base 350 in the same chassis - i.e. the B18B. Considering the extra motivation and even healthier platform you start with when you opt for the H.O. 350 (B18C), I'd think that the decision would be made for you.

Then again, I'm one of the (seemingly) few people in this neck of the H-T woods who understands that a motor that makes 40 more foot pounds of torque at lower rpm is better than something with 20 more hp at 8400rpm. The B18B is cheap, can have VTEC added to it if you want, works incredibly well with the boost options out there and provides enough torque to beat B16 hatches at the drag strip [if you learn how to drive it first].

I'm not saying that the B16 is a motor that should be overlooked completely, but I think too many people buy it thinking that it's going to make their Honda super fast and fun for cheap and then are disappointed with 15.0 and 14.8 timeslips at 94mph. Yeah, you can buy a new block and internals and intake manifold, etc., etc. but then you could've just pulled the B18C5 from the lot in the first place and saved yourself time and money.

B16's are great, but nearly every other choice is better, especially if you already have a VTEC D-series that you can boost.

the thing about b16s is they will seem fun and quick until you ride in a h22 civic or itr civic.... stock for stock i mean

then you will ride in someones turbo gsr
then a built b20 vtec turbo.
your b16 will feel weak as **** once youve ridden in an h22 civic

b16 is the first step. i skipped that and went for the jdm b18cR
