Default Caliper/Piston Tool? (Brakes)

I was helping a friend out yesterday on his 00 Si by replacing his rear pads, the caliper is to closed to much to clear the new pads, what is the name of the tool I need to twist the piston back into the calipers? Can I buy it at Napa/Auotzone?

just tell them it's for the rear calipers, they'll know what you're talking about.

You dont need a specific tool. If you have a set a C-clamps, you can use them to compress the piston back in. To relieve some pressure, take the cap off the BMC resivoir. I've used this method numerous times so I'm 100% positive it will work, unless the piston is frozen.

yea, all I do is the clap thing too, i'm sure if there was a special tool it would cost more then it should and to do the exact same thing. just get a clamp for couple bucks (one that screws works best) and slowly apply pressure, the fluid will slowly get pushed back.

i'm guessing you never changed pads on a honda. so let me share some knowledge with you. on the rear calipers, THE PISTON DOES NOT PUSH IN like those in the front. it actuall screws in, so using a C-CLAMP will not work.

now you can use a set of needle nose pliers, but you take the chance of stripping the star on the piston itself, making it hader to work on next time. so buying the proper tool will not only save you time, but fustration.

so go and run and tell everyone what you have learned!

RIGHT?! i guess not on enough hondas, because had you worked on them you will know the the rear calipers twist in, and are not able to be pushed in like the front calipers pistons are.

NOOB!

Chill out philosofy1.

A large screw-driver works just fine for me.

And yes you can rent it from auto zone if you want to.

I used those on my Saab and it sucked (although it worked), I called Napa and they said the tool is $8 so I will use that. Thanks for all your help and responses.

For all the idiots... Philosofy1 is right... this is the tool that is used to SCREW the REAR caliper piston back into its bore...

The grooves line up with the cuts in the piston face to enable you to screw it in.

Hahahahahaha.... you are calling someone that is older than you be almost a FULL DECADE a KID?

Good one...

And if you would have worked on a car with a self adjusting parking brake with 4 wheel rotors, YOU WOULD HAVE REALIZED THAT YOU ARE A TOTAL ******* IDIOT for being so ignorant to the fact that the REAR CALIPER PISTONS have to be screwed in on ALMOST ALL CARS with rear rotors.

KTHNXBAI!

Dude, He is right, I couldnt for the life of me find out why my rear brakes wouldnt go back in when I tried to compress them. They rotate back into the cylinder as I found out later by searching HT. True story.
