cali smog help
I have a 2000 Si with 169,000 miles.
I just failed smog last week, just barely. (I posted my results already, if you want to see them, click here: http://forums.clubsi.com/showf...art=1)
I had half a tank of 91 octane and I filled the rest with 100 octane. Then I got a bosch universal o2 sensor. Then I got a CEL. Unable to get rid of the CEL, I re-connected the OEM o2 sensor. CEL is gone. I sent my wife to retest - the tailpipe emissions were clean, but the dude failed me because of some BS that the ECU has been reset too recently, and therefor he can not pass me, as the computer has not yet had a chance to run all its tests or something...he said something about it hadn't shifted thru all the gears yet, which is BS because my wife had to drive like 15 miles to get there, using all the gears...
Is this guy BS'ing me, or is there some truth to it?
Any other comments, thoughts, suggestions, etc are welcome.
Thanks!

Seeing as how many miles you have on the car....putting the 500 miles on to retest shouldn't be a problem! Only take what, like 3 days?

Re: cali smog help (Marauder)
I've never heard of this? I had a problem with my ECM not reading because the battery was disconnected (reset the ECM incorrectly). Try pulling the backup fuse next time. If you just unhook the battery and not the fuse it won't connect. (This is my experience at least).

dc headers, although carb approved, are notorious for making hondas fail smog. they dont let the cat heat up enough. however, it seems as though ur reallly close to passing. just make sure ur car is really warmed up when u test, and make sure that u have new plugs/oil/ clean cap and rotor in there.
the same **** about the ECU happened to my brothers 96 accord (also obd2). one of the wires on his o2 sensor had come out of the plug. i just plugged it back in, and reset the ecu. he took it to the smog guy a few days later, and the dude said that we needed to put more miles on the car to acclimate the ecu

Me neither, until a friend of a friend had to get his Prelude smogged, and had to be that day. Reset the ECU in the morning and drove around LA all day until it got the miles on it and went and had it tested. Crazy **** you gotta do, since they started plugging into your OBD2 port!

Re: cali smog help (nissanjon)
I spoke with the dyno shop here in Oakdale - they confirmed that I do need to put some miles on the ecu after resettting it, before retesting. aint that a b!tch.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to drive my slave another 500 miles and retest on monday.
btw - every one of those 169,000 miles are some fun ***, high-revving, borderline-abusive miles - and I still have the original clutch

Re: cali smog help (nissanjon)
ok...i'm a little embarrassed now...
last night i went to autozone to return the o2 sensor and pick up a cap & rotor. i decided to pass on spark plug wires. so i get home and swap the cap and rotor - and the #2 wire tip breaks off in the old distributor and autozone was closed by then. this morning i picked up the only set they had in stock...they were only $13.99...now when i drive, my radar detector is constantly detecting Laser band everywhere i go. has anyone ever heard of this? i usually get a k or x band warning, but in all the time i've owned it, i never get a Laser signal. i know back in the day nascar switched to different wires (silicone i think) because they interfered with their radios or something...i wonder if this is similar...
anyway, should i get a new set of wires?
