CAI filter questions
Hey,
I just installed a CAI on my Civic 2000 DX and had a few questions about it. Firstly, since the filter is in the fender, its kinda pushing down on the thing under the fender, is there anyway i could get rid of that or is it normal?
Also, is rain drops or some rain exposure to CAI bad? I know its bad to have it completely submerged in water but just wondering if its okay if it gets wet a bit during driving and such.
Thanks a lot
Sorry about the CIA lol, CIA = CAI

Re: CAI filter questions
The fender connects to the body using the two 10mm nuts at the bottom. The thing that it connects too is being pushed down by the filter. I can take a picture and put it up tomorrow.

Re: CAI filter questions
Don't cut your splash guard/fender liner , just cut an inch or 2 off the tip of your CAI pipe
Also for further peace of mind get a AEM bypass filter, the new one has flaps that stay closed until the filter is completely submerged.
So it doesn't constantly suck in hot air inside the engine bay, the flaps stay closed until you completely submerge your filter. Which should never happen but if it does by some chance you're protected from sabotaging your engine.
Do you have a swap engine?
Even my cheapo ebay CAI fit my car without cutting the fender splash guard.

Re: CAI filter questions
I don't really know if this is the splash guard/fender liner. But this is how it looks like.

Re: CAI filter questions
the CAI could be for a different motor or if it was for a b18c1, it has two bends and maybe it was turned around. Just try loosening the clamps, adjust it around and see if it will fit better, and if not, cut the CAI.
Just a tip to get a straight edge around the pipe, wrap tape around the pipe (Duck Tape, masking tape, whatever), it tends to line up with itself pretty easy to get a perfectly straight line.

Re: CAI filter questions
Well the problem I had was that the pipe was too small for the hole going to fender and no matter what, the filter was too big to fit in the gap OR i think what might be happening is i dont have the end of that thing hanging down loose because the screws for the bottom of the fender broke, i am thinking to drill two screws at the bottom of the fender.

Re: CAI filter questions
The hole stock is too small for the pipe, it needs some cutting. Trim the pipe if need be, don't cut out the guard. Idt my SRI is for my type of car, but for now it works. Push in your clutch if you're going through a potentially enormous puddle. Personally, I'm going to go with a custom icebox. Tons less money, no lag time and no worry of hydrolocking with all the cold air I want ; ]

Re: CAI filter questions
You really don't need a 3inch pipe for your set-up , but if you've already made the hole bigger so the pipe can go through it then your fine.
Just cut the tip of the pipe so the filter doesn't stick out of the splash guard and you can screw together the splash guard to the bottom of the bumper to surround the filter with a splash guard.
You also could put a AEM bypass valve where the intake separates inside the engine bay.
What type of filter came with the kit? If it's one of those metal mesh ones without any paper/cotton etc. I'd trash it or use it for the track they don't have that good of a dust filtering for your engine.
Get an AEM dry, K&N etc.
