Re: Cable B Series Tranny (5thGenKing)
thats a myth, they do not all grind. Most people beat the carp out of them becasue the b16 mounted next to tranny likes to rev out, so people mash on those combos...im not saying that they are all perfect, but most ones from JDM engine importers are fine and dont grind...i had my b16 cable LSD tranny in MY crx for 2 years it started to grind, but GM syncromesh solved that problem

Many many Y1 trannies (from Civic/CRX) come already with bad synchros or will develop them quickly. Y1 is the worst of the bunch - longer gearing, crappy synchros, requires odd axles and intermediate shaft. Unfortunately though, they are the ones with the optional LSDs . . .
S1, J1, and YS1 (from Integras) don't seem to have as much of a problem, but the only tranny you can get parts for here in the US is the YS1.
Just get a 2nd-gen B16A with hydro tranny and do it right the first time. Hydro trannies do not often come with bad synchros and if you do mess them up later on, you can actually get the parts to replace them here in the US. In the long run it will be cheaper. In the short run there isn't that much of a price difference anyways when you figure in that you need the clutch conversion kit for cable tranny, an OBD ECU, odd axles (if you get a Y1).
Anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any points.

This belongs in the EF/CRX forum then.
You can still use a hydraulic-clutch tranny in pre-'92 Civics, too - Hasport makes a conversion kit for it.
