Default cabin harness cluster-f@ck

I'm working on my civic's engine bay getting ready to be shaved and painted. I start moving the headlight harness and wiper plug out of the way and realize the wireing felt odd under the tape/loom. I undo it to find a bunch of ground wires just wrapped around eachother and the headlight plug cut and rewired witht the wrong colored wires. I then go to the inside to pull it throught the firewall to realize there are more wires the same way. And a switch on the dash board that had a wire hanging there and the other runing to the fuel pump.
So I'm getting a new cabin harness for sure but don't know which one will work. I'm guessing I need a manual harness but does it need to be a vtec one as well?

Car is a 92 cx hatch

Get a hatch SI harness if you can. Any hatch harness with work as long as it's manual. You can always re-run wires for VTEC. I have an EX coupe harness in mine. Everything works after I re-pinned the rear connector except the rear wiper.

92 CX hatch should have an up-shift light. So, find yourself another CX or VX hatch cabin harness. OR, you'll need to pull those wires (there aren't very many) and integrate it into the loom of any 2/3/4-door manual harness. If you get a harness from a 4-dr LX or EX or 2-dr EX, it will have power window/door lock/mirror wires - a great upgrade if you want to do this down the road (if you're thinking ahead).

Well I have a z6 swap that is going in it. I never had it running, I bought it as a shell. The owner before the guy I bought it from just messed up the wiring and I would rather not chance starting it the way it is now. Ill prob get a si harness. What difference is there in the cabin harness between non-vtec and vtec? I know the engine one is and I have the z6 engine harness and a p28.

OK, if that's the case then there's very little difference between the harnesses except for you deciding on what kind of options you want. A basic CX, VX or DX harness will get you going as is. But, do you want to have cruise control and power mirrors? An Si harness will give you this... What about CC, PM, PW and PDL? Get yourself a harness from a 4dr LX or EX, or 2dr EX. They'll all fit your hatch. I'm guessing, though, that the 2dr EX one is pricier because people think it's "special" as it has all the power options and fits the hatch. Well, you heard it from me: don't pay a premium - the 4dr ones work just fine.

Even if you're not thinking about those options right now - it's nice to plan for down the road, just in case. Cruise control is an especially easy retrofit if you have all the wiring there already. Check my sig for a DIY.

Later down the road I will do power options but if I find a cabin harness that will get my car running then I'm fine with that.

So to get this straight there is no difference between a non-vtec and vtec cabin harness? I don't care about a rear wiper. I'm deleting mine.

Bringing my thread back to life here. Will a del sol harness fit/work with my car. I found one for a good deal but I'm not 100% sure it will work.

Del sol harness is completely different. Also all harnesses from 1992 models are prewired for VTEC so it need not be from a VTEC model.
