Default Cabin/ Engine Harness

So I had a short in my car which caused the engine harness to basically melt the cabin harness and the car doesn't start (obviously). Well I was told by the guy working on my car that it is a very tedious job and is going to cost $2200 to fix. $1000 for both the harnesses and $1200 for labor. Is this something I can do by myself? And $2200 seems like I am getting ripped off. Opinions?

New harness`s from Honda will cost you about $5-600 unless you have access to a junk yard. The reason why it`s so much in labor is because he has to take the dash out if the entire dash harness is burnt up. The engine harness is easy enough to do, but come of the connection go right underneath the dash. You could do it yourself, but it`s a very tedious job, unless you`ve pulled dash`s out before like myself...correct me if I`m wrong..

There is no "keep it coming". You have to remove the dash. Plan on taking a weekend to do it. Seeing as how the harness is destroyed you can furnish a replacement harness to the mechanic and only pay his outrageous labor fees or you can do it yourself.

I searched and couldn't find a DIY on replacing the harness. Anybody have a DIY link?

Get a manual for your car. Make it easy on your self. You should be able to find one on the net somewhere.

A harness is $25 at the j-yard. Your labour is free. There - I just saved you $2175.

Get the manual. There is a section on removing body parts like the dash, etc. You will need to get dirty. Also, I strongly suggest you fix your elec. problem before frying a new harness.
