Do a compression test, that will determine whether the engine can handle it. I'm not sure about a/c, but I remember a post the other day about how to remove a/c with the turbo already in, so I think its possible.
BTW - are you putting a turbo on an HX?

You can keep a/c depending on what type of manifold you use, but it is very possible. And 6lbs. should be good as long as it is tuned right. Also do a compression and leak down test before you boost, to make sure your engine is up to par, and try looking in the Forced Induction section. You'll have better luck there.
