Hello All,

Im considering buying a 92 Civic from someone. The one issue I have is that the AC was removed from the engine bay. I live in Florida so this is a big deal. Supposedly all the ac components that are in/behind the dash are still there.

Here's the issue: it has a D15b swap.

I believe the D15b is out of a 95 correct? if so do i need to buy the ac components(compressor, condenser, dryer, lines...) for a 95 or a 92?

I can install everything myself, just need to make sure i get the right parts.

The d15b engine was in civics of the 92-95 era. If your car is a 92, and still has original A/C components, they're R12 parts. 92-93 Civics used R12. If you're going to be installing all new stuff you might as well get R134a parts, which means pull them off a 94-95 Civic.

The difference between the parts is very insignificant after 1991, Get a drier for your model year, to guarantee it fits in the hole it sits in, and is compatible with R134a (most replacements are for R134a). The compressor is where it could get tricky. Make sure that the fittings point in the right direction, and they fit the lines of the car. I would really try to get the right parts for the car, not the engine per se. Make sure the lines from the dash are not broken, you should replace the expansion valve anyways because it could be blocked with dirt.

also think why would you remove a/c? if your buying it from a kid or someone they usually do that to free up some weight or power which means the car might have been beat on, i say keep looking for a different civic unless this is a steal i mean like 1500-2200 at most.

Im going to ask why someone would even swap a D15b into it. Is it really a swap or just the OP thinks it is. Also, depending on the trim level, some cars did not come with the AC. (Its considered a luxery and last I checked, certain trim levels didnt come with the high end items PL, PW, etc)

I agree with your AC and swap comments. I mean, this is FLORIDA. Why in the world would you remove the AC in a climate like this?! And I dont really understand the d15 swap unless is was just for the ease of it. If your gonna swap why wouldnt you do a full B series swap? Thats not very difficult.

Well i havent bought anything yet and i have a few options that Im looking at still just because the AC is such a big thing for me. Plus im not sure that I wanna buy a decked out civic cause half the fun is building it your self! Making just how you want. I would miss that.

reason why some people swap d15b sohc vtec is cuz they are excellent replacement for the d16z6. Here in california we have emission testings and the d15b are good to go as long as you put in the right emission components or swap in a d15b7 or z6 intake manifold. ive passed a few civics with the d15b. also, it technically is a swap. i mean if you had to take the old and put a new......plus they are cheaper than b series. b series aint for everyone

as for op if your concerned about the ac system, find another, ac components can get real pricey especially if you dont know what your looking at for ex the ac compressor can cost as much as $300 alone and then youll need an ac belt and freon to fill it up etc etc..
