A/C problems
I have a 97 EK coupe. Whenever I turn on the a/c on a hot day my idle goes up and down for some strange reason, even when I am drive. It would accelerate by itself and slow down weird huh? Can anybody help me solve this problem. Southern California is freaken hot!

Don't go haphazardly replacing parts before you know what the problem is. The IACV idle issue only applies when the vehicle is in neutral, I'll guess that it isn't the problem here.
Do you have a check engine light? Have you inspected the belt and tensioner? Are you sure it's just not your cruise control malfunctioning or something?
FYI A/C systems can be very tricky, you may be better off just having it inspected.

even in neutral my fellow ht member, it would idle up and down, but thanks for the insight tho. I just wanted to narrow my thoughts about the problem at hand and now I have a better picture of it and will take it to a specialist to have it checked out.

Re: (Thrillahbeeh)
took it to a specialist (my mechanic for many yrs) told me that my compressor might be bad and need to replace it. He only did a visual check but told me he will have to take it apart to get a better idea of the problem.

Re: (Thrillahbeeh)
i just recently took my dc for a recharge, and when i turn the compressor on my idle was fuked up! evn when accelerated it would bogg!. turn off a ac and it would be fine. So they told me i had a bad compressor. I replaced it and im gettin it reacharged tomorrow, hopefully with no other problems. maybe its your compressor.

The best thing to do and to save money is to take it to a professional shop and have them check it out. First they can check the hi and low pressures to kinda generate an idea of what the problem is. If it is the compressor, then purchase a new one along with a drier, replace these two items yourself, and then bring it back and have them vac and recharge the system correctly.
Make sure you have them put some dye into the system so for any future problems, detecting leaks can be alot easier...

How much did the compressor cost and what was the quote for the drier and expansion valve?

well since the car is my DD I didnt want to cough up $250 for a new compressor. My buddy had one layig around from a 00gsr and i used that.
I guess the prices vary, depending where u buy them. their around $40-$60 for a dryer and valve (each)
