Default A/C Compressor Locked/Frozen, burning the belt!

I recently swapped an H22 into my civic. The am using the old D-series compressor and it seems to have an issue. The belt on the crank and alternator moves, but the compressor seems to be locked up or frozen or something. It won't move. The belt just rubs over the compressor pulley and after about 5 seconds of the car being on the belt begins to heat up and almost smoke. Could the compressor be shot? Think it needs to be changed?

What do you think would cause this to happen? It worked successfully for about 5 minutes after I first assembled it, but nothing now. Could it be as a result of running the compressor without the lines and Freon in the system? The A/C wasn't on, so it shouldn't have engaged the compressor and burned it up, but who know. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

Sounds like the compressor crapped out. Check the insides of the lines for signs of black death before replaceing it.

The bearing is siezed. You have to get a new pulley assembly if you can, or a whole new compressor if you can't.

So I probably burned it up running it without the lines being oiled and pressurized? Stupid me.
