Buying an SI
My brother is looking into buying a 99-00 civic si; im a prelude/integra guy and dont know much about civics. Is there anything we should be aware of when checking out some cars? things like problems specific to this model/years (was the SI only a 99-2000? the coupe, not hatch) Thanks ahead of time

Yes, the EM Si was only 1999-2000, they only came in three colors(Blue, red, and black), the stock clutch sucks massive dick, the stock tires are **** in the snow, the E-brake cables have a rep for seizing, according to my technician associates. Other than that, they really haven't heard anything out of the ordinary as far as specific problems. I bought mine new with 25 miles on the clock, put another 200+k miles on, and won't get rid of 'er.

I just bought mines like 2 weeks ago with 104k and I'm pretty happy with it.....was gonna buy a type r or type s......but that would cost me 12k+.....I only paid 5400 for my em1.....and I have no problems.....if ur bro does get one make sure u get good security and unplug a couple things so by the time somebody figures out why the car won't start ur outside whoopin some a**

And 33 horsepower, four foot pounds of torque, some rear disk brakes and a splash of noobie fanboi-dom.
If the OP's brother cares to know what makes the Si so... "special", click the link below. It goes over all the add-ons and gives a brief summary of what the Si comes with.

Most people say that they are not worth the money but i love my 00 fbp si. They come equiped with awesome brakes and most of the upgrades that ek drivers desire (ps...a/c...amber lighting). As for looking out i would check to make sure the car was not molested. By this i mean listen to the car at idle and while moving checking for noises that sound unusual. In addition if the car has been in an accident i would ask for specific details to what body work was done.
In addition many people try to pass of ex models of the same year as si model. Check the vin number on the dash board and make sure that somewhere it say EM1......

p/s is pretty much a prefrence, but if you live in the south like do, a/c is mandatory.

99 ex for half of the 99 si thats because it only goes half the speed hahaha
a/c and p/s is the key to comfortablitity. i wished my eg had those features. its got plenty of speed but i'd also kill for the comfort. darn, and i hate the smogging issues.

Ya the Si was from 99-00 in coupe only. I live in Montreal, Canada so for me its Sir and that is what i have. Basically, i would make sure that the windshield and hood is origional because you don't want a car that has been accidented. Secondly, a compression test would be usefull and i don't think it costs alot. Besides that, it is a hell of a car and i think it would make the H22's scared a little, though i have never seen a race between them so i am just guessing.
I hope that helped you out a little.

MASSIVE theft risk. I mean MASSIVE theft risk.
If you're still a student and are commuting to school in it, kiss it bye-bye.
Ditto if you park it in remotely sketchy areas.
Ditto if you park it overnight in a town that borders a sketchy area.
Also, has it been modded to hell, beaten to death by a 20-eyar-old then returned to stock?
Outside of that, great, reliable, bulletproof cars, for the most part.

x2 extremely high theft rate. im soo scared of parking my car in college. i really just want to get my car painted and sell it. i dont have a '99-00 si but i do have an integra gsr. i might say bye bye to hondas just because of thieves.

i doubt that. stock EM1s are slow.

I still have not seen any of these Si clones that Si owners and fans keep telling me are so common.
Btw, it's just plain "VIN, not "VIN number". VIN means Vehicle Identification Number, so every time I see anyone say "VIN number" I read "Vehicle Identification Number number".

Power steering and air conditioning? My car came with those stock. Also has the larger front brakes and a rear brake upgrade is cheap.

lol... except that the Si is still slow. The B16A2 is a decent commuter engine I guess, but it really has no *****. I mean, come on, FOUR more foot pounds of torque?!?!?!

Pretty much right on the dot.
The last part concerns any recent Honda though.

Re: (NOFX)
The whole pissing contest w/ is it faster than x honda is just silly. Once the WRX and EVO came along, it made all of that stuff pointless anyway.
In '99 if your car was doing low 15's you were quick. Now, Camrys do that.
Enjoy it for what it is--a well-balanced, revvy, relatively quick, dead-reliable car w/ enough sound deadening and other amenities to make it very liveable. Auto-x it or track it. With an upgraded suspension, that's where it's in its element, anyway. It's not a drag car--never was.
