Buying my first motor
hey just thought i can use some advice from somebody, im buying my first motor tmw. i duno what to look for to make sure that the motor is still good, or as good as they say. and what should i look for when buying the tranny. the motor is a jdm D15b vtec. where can i get parts for that motor, like timming belts, alternator belts, spark plugs, wires, etc. Or is it the same parts/interchangeable with other motors like d16z6 or a usdm d15b. i dun even know how much oil the motor and tranny is gonna take, so anyhelp would be nice. thx.

i know that it takes the same timming belt as the d15z1(civic vx) and i think its the same for the water pump also.....alternator is the same as a d16z6, not sure about the spark plugs but i know the plug wires are the same as the d16z6, and it takes the same amount of fluid as the z6 also

You should do some research before investing into a motor. And why choose this motor when theres better ones out there?

Re: Buying my first motor (SD-DC5)
well 1st of all thx for the replies, i only have $1000 to spend. I drive alot on the daily basis, like almost 60-80miles on a normal school. i go to school pretty far from home. and my motor just hit 200k. its a stock dx motor. and i hear knocking sounds when i start it up in the cold. and alot of gear noises from the tranny, but not grinding. i thought i replace it with a motor with low mileage and little bit more performance that i can afford. but its my first swap so i know noting.
oh yea i have a 94 civic dx

use your stock axles
4 qts of oil in the motor, i don't know how much for the tranny.
Im pretty sure all d series alternators are interchangeable
are you doing this yourself? if you have some money left over after you buy the parts, get yourself a clutch and flywheel while you have the motor sitting out of the car.

the knocking u hear when it is cold is called piston slap. this normally goes away in like 30 sec or less.
It is a sign of age, but not a major concern.
