buying hydrolocked b16a2 worth it?
There's a guy that hydrolocked his 99 si
he sold the tranny so I ask if he would sell the head
What kind of damage can I expect from the hydrolocked head?
bent valves, or bad seals
he told me to make an offer I told him 300 if nothing's wrong with it. Is that a good price?
how much would you pay for it if it's in bad shape?

usually hydrolocked motors bend a rod or if its got some eagles or something then it might drop a sleeve. if it had like a stock cast rod it could of snapped maybe went through the block and had the piston bend a valve. i doubt it bent any valves tho. 300 seems like a pretty good deal.

Maybe 200 if it seems okay, put the fear into him and say hydrolocked heads are usually garbage. 300 is too much, nothing over 200, for 200 its worth the risk.

b18c5-eh2 that makes a lot of sense now that I picture the whole combustion chambers/valves/pistons and cranking process.
the water only pushes the valves shut with the compression of the piston
but how about on the way in? through the intake valves? if it's enough water it will damage valves right?
but let's hope that's not the case

When the valves are open the water gets squished out/sucked down into the cylinder, but when the valves are shut (while in the most secured position against the valve seat) the water is then trapped and can only force something to give, which is the connecting rod.
I'm not going to sit here and say without a doubt, 100% there will be zero valve/head issues. I will say that I have seen personally a hydrolocked B16A2 in a 99-00 Civic Si where the rod(s) were bent yet the cylinder head was fine, and even the valves were straight as can be even when rolling them along a glass countertop.

offer 200$
sounds like a sweet deal to me.
I agree with the above. He probably bent/broke a rod...
If you want to be thorough when you pull the head mark with a sharpie which cylinder 'locked' and check the valve seats and valves.

Update
I also called a local honda shop to do the ls-vtec for me
Since the head is already off; they'll charge 200 labor
eagle vtec kit they want 360
they said I need vtec oil and water pump but it's not necessary it's just recomended right I'll see if I get them off the same guy along with the head.
So I'm looking at $600 for parts and labor not including the head itself Sound about right?

Re: buying hydrolocked b16a2 worth it?
O and I also have a brand new b18b honda head gasket
I was pretty sure I can use it for the ls-vtec but the honda shop says they will only do it with the golden eagle one. Why is that?
Ps. I have brand new ARP head studs for b18b/ brand new hondata gasket for b18b/ honda head gasket for b18b and a b18b head that I might have for sale if anyones interested
ps would anyone recomend buying the whole b16 and rebuilding the bottom end slowly and using it in it's pure b16 form instead of ls-vtec

checkout the head first. are you buying it locally? look to see if theres any damaged to the chambers...
also, you can find a cheaper ls/vtec kit here. just keep looking.
stay with the ls/vtec build cuz its stronger than the b16.
