Buying a EJ Hatch, what to look out for?
I've had it on my mind a very long time to buy a Civic, and I wanna do it right the first time with my budget. If I go look for a car, me not being a mechanic, what are some specific things I should definetly give a look or keep in the back of my head when giving these for sale cars a check?
I know rust is one, but thats easy to be spotted. Like are there any specific tests yall do to make sure the engine runs fine n' strong when test driving?
Prolly is quite general the question, but share some of your experiences/knowledge!!
Thanks a lot!

I just give it a good look to see if the motor's been harassed before.... I hate it when people take out the motor and there's clean oily spots on the bolts, it bugs me. I just hate it when a motor has been taken apart, it's like a girl that is no longer a virgin.

Below how many miles do you personally like to be under with your previous car buys? Most are around 200-300k kilometers, but thats quite the number imo

Yea definetly man, the thing is.. Bought my first car, a suzuki swift bout a year ago & I was with bunch of people to buy the car, and I totally overlooked some obvious problems or problems that coulda been avoided when buying haha, so im kinda cautious due to that now
Ill go do some more research, but can you tell me what some of the main problems honda tend to have, like the rust at the back wheels

Im definetly looking to get a bone stock civic, preferably with like 100-130 miles on it!! Still need to understand the different type of luxuries with these civics, like DX/EX n **** like that
Perhaps you'd be able to tell me in more simple english which one of these have, power steering, A/C & electric windows? Or what model EJ
I've looked up the meaning of EX/DX, etc.. but english isnt my main language man haha, harsh

I think that most models in this country are EJ9's, because all I see is 1.4's :/ But I got plans to swap when opportunity is made.
Are there any 'major' differences with the two?

I'm sure most everyone noticed he's shopping in Europe.
That being said your models have different options. Most of us have North American cars. But they are still very similar. I would recommend checking when the timing belt was replaced. Also make sure the air conditioning pumps cold air. Smell for coolant. I like to press every button to make sure it works. And when you start the car make sure all the lights on the dash light. I personally took out the check engine and airbag light bulbs in my gauges so I wouldn't see the lights while I am driving. 300km can be just fine if it was taken care of and there is no reason a civic that old should have any weird problems if it was taken care of and was repaired properly.
A Honda Civic should be a much more reliable car than any comparable Suzuki swift. Welcome to the board and keep coming back

Lmaoo, that must be a troll reply. Else, wise choice partnah
PS: Still havent found **** I am not sure whether I am blind or just ignorant, but im looking at a 1999 EJ Hatch, but the front end seems to differ from the other 1999 hatches i've seen.. Is it possible that 1999 models are fitted with the 96'-98' front ends? I clearly see a difference in the lights and grill...

Yea, but I kinda doubt it tbh, considering most cars im looking at are pretty much stock, in all aspects. But its not just that, I also see 99-00' models with the 96-98' front end, or a different one, whatever im confused

You know the difference between 96-98 and 99-00, all you need to do is verify the vin and you'll know if the frontend was changed or it matches the yr.
