Default Buying a 92-2000 Civic

A quick search didn't turn up any worthwhile results so here goes. I was hoping some of you guys could give some solid advice about what to look for- and what to look out for when buying a 92-2000 Civic.

Guess I should start off by telling you what I'd like to have.

1) I want either a hatch or a coupe and it must have a 5speed.

2) Ideally, I'd like to find something with a swap and/ or turbo already in it. After some reading, it seems a B16/ B18 is a sound base to start with. Which ever way I go, it needs to be emission legal and BAR'able.

3) Mods are ok. GSR brakes upgrade, adjustable suspension, tasteful set of wheels, etc. Not interested in any goofy mods like shaved door handles, 747 jumbo jet sized spoilers or chassis lighting.

I've seen several cars that fit the above wants thats in my price range, but can you guys give me some idea of what to look out for?

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend you don't buy an already modded car. Reason behind my statement is because there are a lot of shitty jobs done, whether it be with an engine swap, turbo install, whatever have you. If you buy a completely stock car, you have the ability to know everything that goes into your car and how they're installed -- guaranteeing quality (so long as you do it all right / get someone to do it for you).

Most people here will agree, too. You never know when you're buying into someone else's problem.

I see what you fellas are saying, I was just trying to get the best bang for the buck. Not to mention, I need the car for commuting. My trucks getting like 11 1/2mpg so the cars down time needs to be minimal at best.

You can buy already modded cars if you know what to look for.

If you have 9k I can put you into a boosted 99si.

I'd steer clear of the already modded cars. It's amazing how badly someone can screw up with an easy modification. Even an aftermarket radio can come to show some real problems.

If you want a car with a swap already, I'd look for a car with just a swap and few mods. Less of a chance for the previous owner to have screwed up. Maybe he had to hire someone to install the engine and they knew a little better.

Id recommend looking for a close to stock car and mod it yourself. Maybe a few suspension mods and wheels but i would steer clear of engine mods. The previous owner of my car installed CTR pistons then decided to sell it. I boought a whole mess of problems, so be careful

Just get a si or an ex they come with a good motor and are well equiped.
