To buy or not to buy?
Found a '93 red Si. 130,000 miles, mechanically sound, speedometer doesn't work, cracked tail-light, was in a minor accident in '97 and had to get front quarter-panel repaired, all Honda recommended maintenance. He's asking $3500. I've been looking for an Si for a long time now. The not 100% history and broken speedo (price to fix?) kinda worry me. Suggestions?

Accident was in '97, in 5 years don't you think the bugs would've shown themselves? And as for the price I haven't found much cheaper than $3500 in my year or so of searching.

Re: To buy or not to buy? (MaxBoost)
I'm set on an Si. I like the comforts it has as a daily driver and I don't want to do an engine swap right off the bat. I autocross and track race too so I don't want to get put in a hybrid class unless I can really beef the car up (don't have money for that). I only plan on doing suspension work for the first 2 years while I'm still in college so I don't put IHE money into an engine that's gonna get replaced eventually. Trust me, I have it all planned out, I need to find an Si.

130,000 miles
Nonfunctional speedometer
Cracked tail light
I guess for an Si $3500 isn't bad. Go for it if it's what you've wanted. I paid $3500 for my CX with a DX motor w/85,000 miles. I had a hybrid off the bat! ha

Good GOD $3,500 is CHEAP for an Si with 130,000 and a MINOR accident.
I sold my 1992 Si with 150,000 and 75,000 miles on the motor for $5,000!
Good deal to me.

Edmunds shows a value of only $2700 (with that mileage), should I offer the guy $3000 considering it's gonna need about $100 in repairs?

Always offer low at first. Be stubborn; I'm sure it'll work out to $3150 or $3200 or so. Maybe even lower - all depends on where you want to start the bargain at.

Speedo is probably just a speed sensor that you could pick up for like $5.00 from any salvage yard. Other than that it *could* be in the cluster, but not likely.
Lowball the guy, but still I see people paying upwards of $3,500 for freaking CX hatches with 150K+ miles on them, so it's not a bad asking price for an Si if the body is straight and has nice paint.
