you could be burning oil, i get a burning smell when i am ideling and i go near redline, but on the road i don't smell anything.

a bag would smell bad all the time so i don't think it would be that.

Bump for the same exact smell. Mine smells like a mixture of burning oil/gas around 6500-7200rpms and it seems to come from under the hood. No visible smoke.

Does it smell like sulfer (rotten eggs)? It could be your cat warming up. When I first started beating on my car I started to smell something burning and freaked out, but it ended up just being my cat heating up.

have you check your oil level lately, you could be leaking oil some where oil pan valve cover cam seals dizzy side, take off your timming cover and check for leaks oil is either dripping on exshaust manifold or dripping on your exshaust, also check your trannies cv axle seals left, right tranny fluid flings all over your exshaust when you have leaks. be sure to check oil level if low theres your problem how many miles on motor

Is this a common problem for people? I got one stuck to the exhaust on my Integra in my parent's garage... did that ever smell... I had to replace the exhaust.

A plastic grocery bag... if you park on top of one, it will stick to the hot exhaust system like flies on a fresh pile of ****, only it will smell worse...
