its either leaking out of the motor somewhere, or you are burning it and just don't know it (blue smoke). Oil can't just disappear.

Fix that leak and then come back after 2000 miles... if it burns 4 quarts in 2000 miles WITHOUT LEAKING ANYWHERE, then you have a big problem... and you shoudl DEFINITELY BE SMOKIN BAD...

But you say that there is no smoke and you have a leak so I think you rather have a leaking problem then burning problem...

If you'll still burn that much oil, taking consideration about the amount of burnt oil, I DOUBT it's the valve-seal problem... it's your rings...

But I am 99% sure that when you fix the leak, you won't be loosing that much oil...

its most likely your rings. believe me, blowby is a bitch. did the previous owner take good care of the car? if so, or if not, how did they maintain it...these things might help, only if you know the answers of course.

isnt there an oil box near the back of the motor near or around the manifold? that might be the problem...

if the oil doesnt appear on the ground than its going somewhere else, do a leakdown test and make sure that your rings are sealing, its goin somwhere very likely its goin out the tailpipe. test first test test test.
