burning oil??
hello htech.. i recently swapped my 2000 civic with a jdm b18c type r motor from hmo
i got the head rebuilt from king motor sports
however i didn’t touch the block.. i don’t really know the condition of the rings but anyway.. i put it back together with all oem honda parts..
ive been using 5w30 honda synth blend.. every time i go for a drive to a car show out of state tho i always seem to be low on oil and filling it back up..
i was thinking the rings might might be bad since i got the head done.. i wana do a compression test.. so i know i have to keep the gas pedal down while i do it but do i need to take off my intake as well?? i have a cold air intake..

Re: burning oil??
B series engines are notorious for leaking from through the oil pan gasket I would check there first. Also oil loss could be through the valve stem seals as well.

Also, I think you have the wrong info on performing the compression test. You want to remove the spark plugs. No need to touch the intake, and don’t hold down the gas pedal as you’ll end up flooding your cylinders.

Re: burning oil??
well as i starts the head has been rebuilt so that should be fine.. also if the oil pan gasket is leaking it wouldn’t take as much oil as i’m putting in at least 1/2 quart every 300 miles or so..
i know now i have to find a way to make the fuel off during a compression test but i read you want the throttle plate open during the test

as as far as leaking goes, you’re likely to lose more oil from leaking than from burning. If you’re losing a half quart every 300 miles through the cylinders, you’d probably have like no compression and a rear view mirror full of blue smoke.

Re: burning oil??
yea but that’s just too much oil to leak.. isn’t there a fuse to take out to kill the fuel during a compression test?? there’s nothing in the service manual about doing a compression test..

Re: burning oil??
not sure about a fuse. Is your motor short on power? Do you have smoke from the tailpipe?

Re: burning oil??
i’m not sure if it’s short on power as it’s my first experience driving this motor.. it doesn’t feel short on power tho.. and i did see smoke when i hit vtec the other day..
