Default burned clutch, or did my car just say screw it?!? need some help. =/

earlier i took the del sol to the carwash and washed it down then about 20mins later i was driving on a back road doing about 20-25mph around a corner. and all of a sudden i couldnt shift. then i could shift but i lost power dramaticly and then everytime i gave it gas in first gear all this white/blue smoke would come out the exhaust and it would stay at 12mph but would keep revving. so right now its sitting in some lonely parking lot. the car is completly stock with about 154,xxx miles on the original motor. my guess is that i burned the clutch because it will start up but smokes really bad from the exhaust. it started smokin like two days ago but not like this. i just learned to drive a stick so i think i may of been giving it to much gas while shifting or to much gas with my foot on the clutch and it just went out. any suggestions on what this could be or what replacement clutch i should be looking at? also could it be burning oil or something. cause it smells like i burned something most the time im driving it and some smoke comes from the bay after about an hour of driving. TIA- i need quick replies please!

say thats not your clutch , smoke out of exaust its not good, do a compression test im guessing your rings are gone, which is not good what engine do you have?

the motor is a D15B7 stock. i dont have acess to alot of tools being that im a 16yr kid that just started driving. i wasnt messing around or trying to be all cool either. i just wanted some food. but yea it smells like something is burnt and it fills up the cabin and or when i turn on the A/C the smell comes out to. any other test to see if i fried my rings? and how much would that run me? could it be my head gasket....i am just not so happy right now!

This is an excellent chance to learn about cars. Go to the parts store and buy a compression tester. Follow the directions and learn the state of your engine. You will probably have low numbers meaning a few things. Hopefully its just the rings, however its still an involved task. That motor with that miles, and an unknown past is almost sure bet its just time for a rebuild. The cost of new rings depends on if you do it yourself of someone else does it such as a shop. If you dont do it yourself and have a shop do it, it might be cheaper to buy a used engine. Ive seen D15b7s go for as low as $200 for about 90,000 miles. There will be more people along that can help ya more than I can.

about a 700-1000 for a new motor and having a local mechanic swap it in

it's either a headgasket/rings problem... headgasket would be easier to change than the rings and you won't have to buy a new motor for now

how much should a head gasket run me money wise? my guess is i blew the head gasket and the piston rings along with maybe burning the clutch. the shop says $500 for a basic rebuild of the motor......i just think id get a swap with that money but im not sure if i could get it done within a weekend. anybody in the seattle area wanna help me out?

i just took it down to Mackies. located in algona/auburn washington. they said that its gonna be $200 to replace the clutch plus $150 for labor. thats why im just gonna do a swap. im so damn heartbroken right now. i dont know what to do. the attachment we all have for these cars is crazy. but yea im gonna do a B16 or B20 swap for my del sol. and im about to post another thread about that.

Hey if you're broke and wanna new motor and a big increase in performance of D15B7 get the JDM D15B 1.5L SOHC VTEC. I got mines froma local japanese importer for like $375.00 and you can use the same everything> All you need to change is the ECU and run the VTEC wire to the selenoid which is so easy. Even with the stock ECU you can use you just won't have VTEC kicking in. Believe me you'll Be happy.

If you can afford it I say go for it. Your not getting a steal but your not getting ripped off. I say pull the head, pull the oil pan pop off the rod caps replace the pistons/rings/rods, replace the headgasket. Also make sure your head isnt warped. Sounds like a lot of work buts it prly the cheapest way.

Its pretty intensive. Need to find a speedshop/performance shop so they will know exacltly how to change out the ECU, and the wiring.
