Bunch of clutch + pressure plate questions B series
Ok I just fixed my tranny ( Bad synchros ) and also found out my clutch is dead, and the PP too. My clutch was a 4 puck, unsprung Clutchnet disc. My PP was apparently the stock one from 94 lol. I liked how this worked, even though I bought the car used with that clutch already there, who knows what abuse it had already taken. I used it 12 months before any symptoms showed up pointing at the clutch.
My questions are regarding clutch + Pressure plate recommendations.
I loved how my previous combination worked, but then again this is my first sports car, so no experience.
Here are the things I want, in order of importance.
1. DURABILITY
2. Good grip. ( I wouldn't want to DOWNGRADE from how it felt before )
3. Driving comfort
I'm also. . . searching for economy. My current budget is around $250 for both parts. From my research in clutchnet, thats enough. What do you guys suggest???
94 del Sol VTEC 151 whp 110 ft/lbs
If anything, only expecting maybe increasing to 180 whp aprox in the next 2 years.
Thanks in advanced!

umm. maybe you just need to check your clutch fluid and bleed it??? 250 bones back in your pockets.

I did that a few times. But When I dropped the transmission I visibly diagnosed the clutch and the PP are just gone. They need to be replaced.

id say a cheap clutch masters, or act would be fine. I had a 6 puck act and heavy duty pp in my car for 329. Worth every penny but thats a little over kill for you application. You may look into a fidanza or exedy too

What about durability? Would a stock PP with a sprung 4 pack last longer than a stronger PP + 4 puck? Will they eat into my flywheel quickly? This car is %50 daily driven. Would it be enough for my current power and my goal whp?

if the stock pp is in good condition that would be enough easily for you. But a stronger pp wont hurt anything, i've never heard of a stronger pp eating at a flywheel. I ran my last setup with a stock flywheel and its still doing awesome

For durability, I would get a sprung hub disk.
For your power goal, I would just get a pressure plate that is a little better such as a stage one or equivalent.

just for a little fact, sprung or sprung has no affect on performance, its just to reduce the chatter of engagement i believe. An act street disk would be a nice choice

Ok one last question
What would be the performance if I used an OEM replacement PP, like the Daikin one, and used a good 4 puck sprung disc? Would it last longer than having a stronger PP with that clutch? Thing is I'm having some $$$ issues recently, and I might have to skimp a little and buy the oem PP instead of aftermarket.

I got a Zoom stage one for $254 pp & clutch and a stock flywheel and is great. it has a good 25,000 miles and when i pulled the trany to check it it still had a good amount of meat left. and i beat on mine a lot. I've putten 1700 miles on it since i had it though.
oh, and when i put it on when my friend had this engine and tranny 3 years ago i got it from advance auto parts. price is still the same though.
