building a jdm 98 spec type r head
hey every1 i got a jdm 98 spec full itr swap and i want to get my head fully built..keep in mind that i am keeping my block fully stock and just wana build the head.... i think i wana get the following: please let me kno if these are quality parts that will yield a good hp gain
Skunk2 Pro Series DOHC adjustable came gears
Skunk2 B-series pro series B16-B18C VTEC Camshafts Stage 2
Skunk2 Pro Series B series Titanium Retainers
Skunk2 Pro B-series DOHC VTEC Dual Valve Spring Set
Greddy Timing Belt - B18C
and then i have a few choices when it comes to valves here they are:
Skunk2 B-series VTEC Forged Valve Set (STD-Comp)
Stock size. Stock compression (dished valve). 8 intake / 8 exhaust / 16 valves total.
Skunk2 B-series VTEC Forged Valve Set +0.5mm OS (STD-Comp)
+0.5mm oversized valves. Stock compression (dished valve). 8 intake / 8 exhaust / 16 valves total.
Skunk2 B-series VTEC Forged Valve Set (Hi-Comp)
Stock size. High compression (flat valve). 8 intake / 8 exhaust / 16 valves total. $291.99
Skunk2 B-series VTEC Forged Valve Set +0.5mm OS (Hi-Comp)
+0.5mm oversized valves. High compression (flat valve). 8 intake / 8 exhaust / 16 valves total.
so which valves are best for my application?
and also should i get a aftermarket intake manifold and throttle body? if so which ones are best? thanks every1 i appreciate it
also how much more horsepower does every1 think ill be making over stock ?

Don't get the titanium retainers unless you're planning to rebuild your top end in another 15K miles. They are made for race use only and tend to mushroom over time, resulting in dropped valves.
aftermarket springs aren't necessary, just add dual springs to the exhaust side I believe. ITRs had dual springs on one side, so just get another set of inner springs and add them to whatever side doesn't have them. If it's too expensive, then get aftermarket
Why buy an ITR head if you're just totally redoing it anyway? A mildly ported P72 head would perform just as well
Read before buying retainers. This is why I have a set of BC steel retainers for my build I'm planning, not Ti.

Re: building a jdm 98 spec type r head
Do a pro series intake manifold and throttle body with size of your choice. Im a big fan of skunk2 parts and it looks like you are to. It will give you a significant increase in the horsepower and torque ratings. Its tough to say how much horsepower you will have but those motors come with about 210. So i would say anywhere around 275hp and 175tq if you do the high compression .5 oversized valves.

ha, doubt it. a 15-20 increase from cams, maybe like 1 or 2 from the slight difference the flat top valves will make and like 5 on the top end from a higher flowing TB and intake. 65 is not realistic.

You sure you want to rip apart a perfectly good type r head? With all the work and parts your looking into, why not do up a regular B16A (PR3) head, you'll have pretty much the same result.
