Build Up D15B7 or Swap

I havent seen too many people with hot d15b7's, i am still debating on the swap, otherwise spend 2-3k on the b7 or swap in a b16 or other motor.

Re: Build Up D15B7 or Swap (Boomboy14)

b16's suck no power until VTEC and u still arent going anywhere. my b7 has 200k+ on it running 10psi with a greddy kit 450cc injectors and running 14s. if your gonna swap it get a b18.

fixed.
get a greddy kit and smoke b16 swapped hatches like me. its true that theres not much for the b7 but with a tune they can be really reliable and quick. crower is the only company to make rods for a b7 though

shit! accidentally deleted my post.

Honestly if I had 2-3K I'd much rather do a b16 swap. and by the way, with that much money you could probably get a GSR swap. I dunno, its all in preference. I'd be very wary of turboing a b7 though.

Re: Build Up D15B7 or Swap (grandtheftlunchbox)

i know what turbo jdm hatch is talkiing about, i drove a civic hatch with a b16 and didnt really like the delayed pull, b18 is a possibility, my b7 only has 90k original on it so it should last. im hoping to pull 11's in the future, just have to decide how to get there.

Good info, but he kinda points out things that are already obvious. but, regardless, he is correct. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Pencil thin rods, small ports, weak headgasket (I work at a honda dealership, I see blown headgaskets in these all the time)... I mean if you build it up you'd have more reliability but if you want to do it right youll probably spend more than 2-3K.

yes but i would like to go faster(sounds pretty childish, i know)i have liked fast cars since i was a little kid, i got a ride in a built pantera when i was a kid, he got it up to 140ish and i fell in love with speed from there on...

and how do i get the trial user text out from under my user name, im not a trial member any more.

naRIPSTA 09-07-2008 05:25 PM

With your budget, I'd probably swap in a Z6 or Y8. Then maybe do a budget boost type of deal.

Heck, check the compression on your B7 and if they're all good, boost it lol. If it blows, swap in another. They're so damn cheap nowadays.

or save yourself the hassle and spend 2500 on an H22a and have the same power, with no tuning, and no worrying about a turbo failing

naRIPSTA 09-07-2008 05:31 PM

Ah yes, H series. H2B baby!

I don't work at a honda dealership but I too can attest to both of these problems, i've seen D15B7s drive rods through the block, and i've seen more D15B7s then I can recall with blown head gaskets, at least 13 of them, maybe more, hell i've got 3 in a corner of my garage ready to be stripped for aluminum for that very reason.

Re: Build Up D15B7 or Swap (94EG8)

IMO the b7 is the worst engine honda ever built...other than the b21...
i can say this because its currently my "powerplant"

OP: im in the same boat as you, ive driven boosted a6's and the only difference i can feel between getting out of a boosted A6 and into a H22a is the BOV and the turbo spool

i feel the same way about the b7 but i also feel the same can be said about b16's no power until boosted. neither of them react well to basic bolt ons

Re: Build Up D15B7 or Swap (nix94delsol)

an h22a would be nice...pretty cheap too, i could always turbo that afterwards...

but how the hell do i get this trial user ish gone...

h22 is nice but what about the cable tranny? dont people have to drill out sections of their firewall or engine bay for that?

its hydro tranny, cable shift linkage. and you dont HAVE to cut a hole, you can snake them under the firewall

read up on the FRM before you plan to boost an H22

You have to drill a hole in the floor to run the cables up through and you need to cut the shifter hole larger, i belive place racing used to offer a shifter box though so you didn't have to drill the first hole. Or you could go H2B and not have to do any of this.
