Default Build thread : d16 all motor w/ nitrous...dont hate on the sohc

Well i just ordered all my parts for the block and what not heres what i ordered. running it all motor since im getting a 04 type s in february.

pm7 pistons
oem headgasket
block guard
arp head stud bolts
megan headers

and head ordering atm but i doubt it will be in till after christmas(owe dad some money)

crower stage 2 cam shaft
crower stage springs and retainers
Aem adjustable cam gear
skunk 2 intake manifold
450cc injectors
aem cold air intake

and for the fun part zex nitrous kit with purge kit and heat warmer. just got a 10lbs bottle and im thinking about 55 75 and 100 shot jets for it. also have auto bottle opener.

im shooting for 160whp-170whp all motor then have it tuned with the nitrous then. what yall think? ill start putting up pictures when i take the motor out next week and start have it bored from my mentor ( im doing this for my senior project at school..once done with it i give a presentation and i graduate! yay)

anything i should do differently? dont say get an engine swap. i get my grandpas type s in february for graduating

ive found a few good books about building honda engines for nitrous and boost and things like that. theres a lot of little things you can do to add performance that i wouldve never thought of. id say if ur not in a hurry to get it done do a lot of research. theres little things like removing the oil squirter's to reduce friction and adding fuel to compensate for the cooling problem of doing so.

Sounds good...but I doubt you'll see 160 to 170 all motor...maybe on nos....you should make a solid 130 then shoot for 190, 200 on the gas

you will need more than 10.5 compression to hit 160whp...

i agree with this. also you didnt specify which zex jet you will be using... theres a pretty big difference between the three. with the 75 shot on your setup, you should be netting 13s or better id think.

If you haven't already ordered your cams, I would do a little research and try to find a good nitrous grind. With a built motor, I would spray a 100 shot for sure. I do recomend if your budget allows to get a megasquirt ecu. They're a cheap standalone that would let you tune as you wish to take advantage of the mods you have and you can set it up to control your nitrous on and off RPM's, retard timming when shooting, and can even program it to add fuel using your new injectors. I've got an Edelbrock direct port kit on my mazda, and I'm about to order a megasquirt so i can pull some timming when spraying. I don't want to change another headgasket.

i have heard about using the LS rod but never actually seen it done. I was thinking about trying it on my sohc build. how much is the machine work and how strong are they?

block guard is unecessary. Im not to sure about the 450 injectors, just seems a bit too much for all motor

You're on par to have it done by spring

first of all whoever said ls rods in a d16 should be shot. the stroke for a b-series is way to long. second high compression dome pistons should be used, and they should be around 12:1. Third you shouldn't have orederd anything w/o asking someone who knows motors (Me). Infact i bet you just got stronger valves. fourth you should get the measurements for your intake and exhaust vavles and got both Sizes bigger 245 intake and 195 exhuast. hopefully you got dual springs and titanium retainers w/ valves. also you will need a block guard just not aluminum.

just for the part seems like you like spending money, hopefully you have a good build. but your hp goal seems to be 125 w/ what your looking at

450's might be to much for his setup, but they're definately not to big for all motor. right now i have 440's and they are very close to maxing out.

ooooooooo you're going to run a 100 shot on stock pistons ehhhhh not wise. id swap them out and go with TT or eagle with some type of pistons IE viatra pistons by ycp are pretty slick............

stock motor is cool with a 50 shot......im running that on my k24 right now reliably

when you hammer in tha block guard be sure to get the block decked and dont RandR it unless you re-deck it........i say if you're doing a nitrous build go all out.

meaning run CROME, get the direct shot, swap pistons, pnp, do it all since you;re in there right now it seems like a very very light build with simple bolt ons ie the cam and gear dont require tearing apart the motor to install i mean how hard is it to keep the motor in the car and remove the caps then RR that takews 45 mins tops

Can someone explain to me the point of a bottle warmer?
I thought the colder your NAWZ is the better it will perform?
correct me if i'm wrong..
