Default Broken Wheel Stud

Stupid me broke a wheel stud and stripped another in the front driver corner. From what I understand, I have to remove the hub, hammer out the old studs, then hammer in the new ones. There's a couple things I'm unsure of though.

1. What is the wire that runs along the right side of the knuckle assembly, from the top down to the bottom behind the hub, and how do I take it off?

2. How do I seperate the hub from the knuckle assembly once both are taken out?

Thanks!

Thats the ABS wire. You can remove this by removing approximately (6) 10mm bolts, but you dont even have to remove this to repair the wheel stud.

Rent a "Slide Hammer" from autozone. Figure out how it works (its not that hard at all otherwise Autozone wouldnt rent it ) Once you get the hub off the bearing, just hammer out the studs that need to be replaced. Put the studs back in just enough the splines line up.

Place the hub back on the spindle. Use the 32mm axle nut to press the hub back onto the bearing/axle. Itll work like a press. You need an air compressor gun to put this one on, youll be a miracle maker if you could do it by hand.

Once the wheel hub is back on, you need to tighten the studs since they werent completely pressed on. Just a lug nut to press it on. Air gun needed for this sir.

Good Luck and hoped this helps ----Migs

you guys are lucky... i had 2 wheel studs broken and stiriped on my right rear. The only way to fix it was to blow torch them off. Hurt my poor slipstream but after that, putting new studs in was a breeze

I wouldn't consider myself lucky. Maybe relatively lucky.

I didn't remove the hub to do mine. We covered this yesterday in this thread

I had to do one on my EG. On 5G cars, there is a dimple at the 6 o'clock position on the hub that will allow you to drive the stud out. Just rotate it around until it lines up and smack it with hammer. You'll have to remove the caliper, disc and heat sheild first.

Install's a lot tougher since the stud is not broken, and therefore, it's longer. Be patient, work at it, you'll get it in. To seat it properly, stack a bunch of washers over the stud and tighten an old lug nut over them. Keep tightening until the head of the stud is flat against the back of the flange.

My friend has a broken one on his Eg hatch that needs to be replaced. I read in another thread the stud is $4 from the dealer and about a $30 charge to have a shop do it for you.
