Broken Timing Belttttttt
Before anyone flames, I tried to search but my computer wont allow it to finish searching, it just spins and spins.
I was driving to work today in me 93 Si. And the timing belt snapped.
Is the d16z6 a non interferance motor? Or do I have to start looking for a new head? I wasnt in vtec when the belt broke, I was just cruising @ about 3000 rpms.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
TIA!

Re: (S2K81)
Ok. I have a spare head from another d16z6. Its a different year motor though. I dont think this will matter but just wanted to make sure it was a slap on and go.
Nothing will need to be modified or changed?
Looks like Ill drive to the city bright and early and get a head gasket in the am, then pull the head off

you MIGHT have gotten lucky. I snapped a timing belt at about 4 grand tuning the car, didnt damage a thing. I have no idea how though, and it was on jackstands.

Re: Broken Timing Belttttttt (CodyC142)
I can tell you from experience. I have had 2 motors break timing belts.
first was a DOHC zc. I was on the highway soing 65 when the timing belt shredded. I took the head off because I was worried about bent valves. Took it to a head shop locally and the guy was like "I can't understand this!" none of the valve had bent. They were all 100%, straight and true.
second was a Ls. Coming to a red light. About 30mph. The belt breaks. Not wanting to spend the time pulling the head. I took a chance and put a new belt on. Motor still runs today. Just like normal.
So I'ld say, maybe you can get lucky. Maybe the third time is the last for me.
You have a 50/50 chance.

tuning on jackstands? woah
as far as something happening, my friends old lude vtec belt broke twice on him.. first time he fixed it and ran like normal.. 2nd time i was drving from a road trip and it broke, replaced it and drove it home with no problems..
on the other hand ive seen when they break and the bend the **** out of valves and do damage.. i guess you could always just replace the belt and if it runs like ****, take the head off.. you're going to replace the belt anyways, so stick it on and try it out.. you might've gotten lucky

Re: (CodyC142)
just put another timing belt on and do a leak down test and see if anything is bent. if you get alot of leakage then you have bent valves. i replaced 2 belts on a LS motor that snapped and everything was okay still. just check it first, doesnt hurt. if nothing is bent you save some money

your doing your timing belt about 50,000 km early. its more like a 150,000 km service or 90,000 miles
