Default Broken Lug Nut....help!

I was trying to take my wheels off yesterday to clean them, and I guess the place who did my springs torqued the lug nuts to tightly, because when I started unscrewing one of the lug nuts, it broke. I think this is probably just because the lug nuts are really cheap, but still, I dont think you should be able to do that by hand. I went to Sears and they couldnt get it off with an impact wrench, because there wasnt enough of the nut left, so now Im really stumped on what to do. Its not that urgent to fix, not dangerous or anything but I really dont wanna get a flat on that tire and be SOL. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this off, please help me out

Just want to make sure I understand the situation. Yhe lug nut is still on the stud on the car, but they're no where to get a good enough grip to torque it off?

If you've got shity wheels on there and don't mind that they get a little chewed up then you can use an air chissel. Otherwise I'd use some heat and a hand chissel and pick away at it. Or go at it a little with a dremel to get a grove started then split it with a chissel.

I wouldn't say it's not dangerous. Because you are down on, it puts more stress on the other three.

Get yourself a nice drill bit and drill the head completely off. Then of course replace the stud adn the nut.

I went to a machine shop and the guy recommend I just drill away at the stud until the lug nut is off, then get a new stud like you said. How much would a new stud cost?

BTW: The wheels are almost brand new Velox VX8's, so I dont want to ruin them.

how do lugs break? Do you mean you stripped it? use a gridner and get some surface area for a socket to grip, and give it another shot
P.S. Use a 19mm next time! One that isn't funked up!

Well if you're afraid to chissel then this should work, you'll want a #13 (can't buy just one though gotta buy the set). Has an open end for the stud to pass through, use with a properly sized box wrench or large adjustable end wrench. These are greeat, one of the best investments I've made tollwise.

Especially when idiots use an impact on them. I bought a set 2 1/2 years ago and have never had a problem, take my wheels off all the time. Just make sure to use a torque wrench and you should be fine.

Yeah, grind a bit of the shoulder off, smack it in with a BFH and then use a nut and some thick washers to pull it through the rest of the way.

If there's enough of the lug left, jb weld a socket to it. Otherwise drill it out and put in a new lug. Like someone said, the stud is cheap, but it's a real pain to do.

hammer on a 1/2 inch 12 point 19mm socket and use a impact gun. use short birsts so u get maximum torque to take it off. i recomend craftsman sockets because it might take more than one.
