Broken key in ignition
I let my friend borrow my car earlier and he ended up breaking half of the key off into the ignition. What is the best way to get it out?

I had thought about the magnet too. I'm going to try that out first. Don't want to call the locksmith

take all the plastic off the steering column. so you see the ignition part... take a screw driver and turn the key to the "1" position.. and leave it there... and you will see a small circle on the top of the ignition area. and all you do is push that down and pull the key tumbler out. and then remove the broken key. and then put the tumbler back in..
and any key place can make a copy of your key even if its broken in half. or get a key at the dealerhip.

Thank you very much, great info. I'm going to try that first thing tomorrow when there is some light.

Or you can call the locksmith to get it out and make your friend pay for it.

too bad keys are NOT magnetic.
just get a pair of fine tweezers and pull it out. infact taking out the tumbler is not that hard.
