broken hood release latch
Hey guys, I searched my butt off and couldn't come up with the answer.
My damn hood release latch (little black latch that you pull to open hood) snapped off the other day. I can still open the hood by pulling on the remaining piece, but it's a pain in the ***. I was checking parts catalogs online and it looked like the latch came as part of the hood release cable.
Can I just replace the latch or do I need a whole new cable?
If I can replace just the latch, what is the part number? TIA.

Especially for the 96-00 Civics. Seen too many of them broken.

Exactly. I have an old pull from one of them ready to have a mold made of it in case anyone wanted to make something.
I haven't replaced my latest broken one because my latch (the latch at the front of the car, not the pull handle inside the car) is acting... backwards.
Basically one spring on the assembly should be tighter and the other looser (from what I can gather). The one that should be tighter is looser and visa versa. When I pull the handle it's REALLY strong and tight and then it doesn't snap back. I have to go under the hood and move the tab back so it will catch the hood when I shut it.

i made one for my borthers 99 ex coupe.......took a pieace of mild steel flipped it over and tacked a hook up for the cable, painted it flat black, so what he does is pull on the metal tab i made for him and it pops open

I'd like to see an exact replica though. I'm picky like that.
