Broken door locks? I might have a fix
I've noticed that a lot of people have broken door locks in their Eg hatches on the interior... well I was thinking about designing a replacement part exactly to OEM specs but stronger.
I talked it over with my Mechanical Engineering professor and I might be able to do a small run of about 250 of them, but I need to see if there is interest.
To get the assembly from the dealer it costs $80 because you can't buy the seperate peice that I would be making.
I was thinking about charging $10.
Anybody interested? Let me know so I can see if this is a reasonable project to undertake

What piece are you talking about exactly? the plactic handle that you move to lock or unlock the door? if so id be interested in a set i jb welded a piece of aluminum to the back of mine to get it to semi work right
Edit:
I have a del sol so i doubt anything you make for a hatch will fit, unfortunetly i need the whole locking mechanism for my drivers side door now and the dealer wants $200 for it cause it was only on the sol (I checked nothing else ussed the same lock)

keep them coming. I need to know what kind of run I would need to make as this would be a one time thing. Probably 125 of each side is what I am thinking about right now.
It is the part that says "lock" on the inside of your door handle. It breaks easily when the doors are frozen shut, and also from aftermarket power door lock actuators.... it was a poorly designed factory peice that the dealership charges way too much for

Yea my drivers side actuator broke my lock tab So what piece would we be replacing? Could you please describe in more detail. The locking tab itself? I'm definately down!

Both of my doors in my EK are broken because of my actuators for my alarm. Worst part is that they're just barely out far enough to get the door to unlock and it STILL broke them.

ok so here is an update. Still in the beginning processes, but we are most likely using another form of plastic, but one that has more elasticity and is less brittle, therefore it'll put up to the stresses put on the factory parts. The new parts will be either not painted yet, or black. but I'm not sure which one. They will not have the words "lock" on them because that would make the manufacturing process a lot more time intensive. I'll have a better update and a pic of the design later this week

CNC some billet aluminum ones!!!
no but really, i'd buy a pair. my driver's one is broken and it's lame when i left my GF in the car and she can't unlock my door for me. $10/each is a pretty good price. it's about how much the handles go for on ebay (and they're gonna break later anyways)
