Last night i was getting gas and was checking my oil level. I noticed my valve cover under the spark plug cover had a little oil on it. I found out that one of hte bolts under the spark plug cover was loose. After work today i went out and tighted all the valve cover bolts. I was tightening down one of them and the ******* bolt snapped off. How do i fix this? I dont want to be leaking oil and crap out the top of my valve cover. Any help is appreciated. Thx.

i did the same thing, except on my d16. get an ez out and drill it in there, comes out easily. you could probably just drill a small hole in the bolt and use a screwdriver to back it out. get a new bolt from honda.

it's a stud, not part of the head.

you have to take off the cam cap where the bolt broke. so take off both cam rails(after you take off the timing belt at tdc) once you have that cam cap off you can see how far the bolt broke off. if it goes all the way dont to where the cam cap meets the head, i would sugest taking a small punch with a sharp tip and taping it with a hammer lightly. should come out very easy. DO NOT DRILL INTO YOUR HEAD unless you pull the head off. if it comes down to that, i would bring it to a machine shop where they have the correct tool to remove it and fix the threads properly!

Its broke off at the very top, it is now flush w/ the rubber grommet thing that rests ontop of the valvecover.

just get some locking pliers and twist that puppy out, get a new stud, and you'll be set

Since the 99/00 Si(B16) and ITR(B18C5) heads are the same, does it matter whether i get the bolt for a 99/00 Si or 97+ ITR?

I think its #20 or #32 in this pic...

they should be. Bring in your old broken one-both 1/2's, and compare. I wouldn't know for sure, but it seems like it should

you could try to take it out with taking apart the cam capS. with the method of a punch and tapping it with a hammer. like i said before should come out very easy


just the stud part? then just put a new stud in

it's a stud, you can remove it, takes only a couple minutes, didn't you notice that you can put a wrench on the bottom of it?

I cant see the bottom of it, the stud goes down into the motor.

Just take off the valve cover, get a deep socket, I think 14mm but maybe 12mm, and just take out the stud. There is another nut on the bottom of the stud that hold the cam girdles down and just unscrew it. Also, these studs break all the time because people try to overtighten them so just be careful in the future.

Is it safe to drive around or will it be leaking alot of oil out of the valvecover?

Well I had a friend break the same exact stud as you and she never replaced it. It never leaked oil, but it also broke right at the edge of the valve cover. I would definitely suggest replacing it and maybe put some hockey tape or duct tape over the hole till you can get to Honda and get a new stud.

Here is what I did.

Cover the top of the head with a few plastic bags. Then put newspaper on top of the plastic bags. Use a Dremel and cut a notch in the top of the bolt. Use a flathead to unscrew it. Don't use those Easy Out crap. This will work just fine. Then go get yourself a new bolt. Hope that helps.

I did the same thing to the same bolt. I overnighted the bolt from honda for 14 bucks, bought and easy out from Home-Depot for 5 bucks. Once I had everything it took me 10 min to fix everything. Its an EASY !!!!!! fix... Just be carefull when drilling it out not to get shavings into the engine!!!! BE VERY CAREFULL !!! I used a vacume to suck up shavings as i drilled..
