Default Braking is weak after 15/16ths MC?

My car: 92 CX

Stock Brakes / Rear Drums.

I replaced the old 13/16ths unit with a 15/16ths 91 Civic Ex Sedan unit.

I have bled the system thoroughly(i think i spelled that right) and the pedal feeling is sharp and not mushy at all. But my braking power is greatly reduced. i now have to step on the brakes as hard as i can to lock up the wheels. stopping now requires a lot more pressure.

my question is, is this how it is supposed to feel?

if not, what is wrong: booster? need bigger brakes?

thanks for your time.

Did you change anything else in the brake system? If you only bolted on the EX master cylinder you have effectively reduced the amount of hydraulic leverage due to the larger piston size....more fluid moves per stroke, but the pressure has been reduced, requiring more pedal pressure...

thanks fastbrakes! i kind of figured that, but wasnt sure because tom (mod) has done this to a stock cx and he said the braking was the same.

but do you know if the 91 ex booster will bolt on also?

Yeah if you're not upgrading your calipers it's pointless to get a bigger mc

CXHatchback...thanks for the info, but that was totally obvious.

For right now, there is no reason for me to install my gsr front brakes if my mc or booster isnt working right, correct?

i beleive tom has integra knuckles all around... and he has RS MS and Booster

what was stated above i think is true, and you should really get the integra knuckles(front and rear)

i have only the fronts from an integra with stock ms\booster but the braking power is great...(i have the rear disk sitting in my room like everything else i have LOL...)

I've also changed out my 13/16 MC for the 91 EX sedan 15/16 MC only and not booster.

For a few weeks I only ran the rear discs with the 13/16, and felt that the pedal was mushy.

After switching out the front discs along with the 15/16 MC and prop valve, the pedal feel is hard and bites hard when braking. I do notice a difference in stopping distance, although I'm guessing it would lockup easier if I ran the GSR or ITR 1 inch setup. Overall, Im pleased with the 15/16 EX MC with the GSR brakes setup so far.

WTF? If it's totally obvious you shouldn't be asking this question. Your MC is working fine, it's the fact that you didn't swap out your calipers that's making your pedal feel like you need a ton of force to brake. Swap out your front brakes and you will notice a difference. You will still need more force than if you were to have the gsr fronts w/stock mc, but the pedal feel will be better and higher, concerning travel.

No I specifically said do NOT do this m/c with stock-sized brakes.

I did this mod on a stock CX but also said that the guy was swapping on GS-R front brakes shortly thereafter.

What fastbrakes said is right - bigger m/c with stock brakes will equal a rock-hard pedal and overall worsened brake feel.

Get some bigger front brakes!

Thanks for the replies guys!

as for you cx this was all you said that came to me as obvious (Yeah if you're not upgrading your calipers it's pointless to get a bigger mc)

What do you mean wtf? you stated that i should only do this if i was going to get bigger brakes. the thing is, i have them sitting here in front of me. i didnt want to proceed on to the install if something in my brake system has failed because i havent experienced this problem before. thanks for coming here to help me out though. appreciate it
