Default Braking System, Help me out

Now is there a big difference in Rotora and Brembo and Wilwood? Im guessing from lower performence to high is Wilwood then Rotora and then Brembo. Is that wrng, pleawse correct me. Is wilwood even good or decent to spend money on or should i just save a lil more and get rotora or Brembo? Help me out.

Thanks

It is not a matter of being able to afford it it is a matter of what works best.

A stock integra brake system with some hawk / pbs pads, SS Lines, MC upgrade, and some good brake fluid is a very good set up.

It will cost much less (thousands) than a brembo kit too.

It lacks the bling though.

Wilwood is a GREAT brand. Their quality is probably the same as brembo. Our Formula cars at skool use wilwood brake parts cause we get a deal on em.

For the cost, big brake kits are not worth it. What is worth it is Staying with cast iron rotors, using semi-ceramic brake pads.

Stainless lines and good brake fluid helps pedal feel (not 60-0 distance)

Check into OEM upgrades which are cheaper and more effective sometimes.

DONT use drilled rotors.

yeah, OEM calipers arent blingin like monoblock ones that are painted prettily.

Some people find out the hard way. Although ALOT of people use slotted and drilled rotors w/out problems, so if you want the bling, it's up to you.

If youd like to go with an OEM setup (which is cheaper with cheaper replacement parts) and is also more effective, let me know, I can get ya all the specifics.

As was said before in this thread, Wilwood and Brembo are both high-quality brake parts that work great. You're also paying for it...they're not cheap.

That link is a great write-up. Slotted rotors do nothing, and drilled rotors crack. Granted, any rotor can crack, but regular solid/vented rotors are more likely to just warp and cause a shake...drilled rotors will just crack.

Big brake kits will add stopping power due to increased friction area...but think if you really need it. The factory brakes on my bone stock Civic have more than adequate stopping power. Unless you're heavily modded and do a lot of track racing, a big brake kit or even (in most cases) rear-disc conversion is probably a waste of time and money.

What do you recommend that i should get from OEM? Can you list me all the part i should get and from where. I guess i rather stop on the dime than to bling it out. thanks

What car and brakes do you have now? I did a not too big upgrade on mine and I can STOP.

I did this upgrade, compact, the car stops like crazy with good tires (which I have) and Will clear 15" wheels. Besides the bigger calipers and rotors, I have stainless lines, a 1" MC, and unknown brake fluid and unknown rotors and pads that I got used but DAMN my car will stop when I ask it too.

The BIGGEST OEM thing that comes to mind that can be bolted to a civic would be to get ITR front knuckles, 99 Acura RL calipers and rotors. This uses a 28mm 11.6" rotor, and only mod for this is to use two 1.5mm washers for the caliper mounting bracket. The way it works is fine, the setup is still structurally sound.

Also, You may use Acura RSX Type-S rotors and The DC5R (04 Integra Type-R in Japan) brakes because it uses a fixed 4-piston caliper (blingin like a *****.) With that setup, you can use the RSX-S rotor here in the US, but will want your Civic EX knuckle (or ITR knuckles) and make sure to use the 98-01 Integra Type-R hubs, because they are 5-lug but the DC5R takes a 36mm axle end into the hub, therefore requiring you to use a axle end from another axle. This is better than the RL calipers cause its a 4-pot so gripping on the pad will be better (better braking).

This may sound confusing, and I don't have pics of it, but you can search h-t.

This is the front setup 11.6" rotors and a better than ITR brake caliper. For the rear, you get rear discs, RSX rear calipers, and Civic Si 02 EP3 rotors, keeping that 4-lug.
Or straight ITR rear discs, 10.4"

I think I have a problem. Im using stock 4 lug wheels. and I might get Si rear brakes. What setup can I do with that? Do i just upgrade the rotor and the brake lines and get semi-cermic pads? Thanks

Go Find rear Caliper brackets from a EP3, ITR, RSX, Legend, Vigor, RL, TL.

Bolt those on, put the SI caliper on those, and boom. You can use the Si's pad but you use a 10.4" rotor, from a 2002 Civic Si. Its 10.4" but still 4x100.

Oh man, you got the stock 9.5" brakes. Yeah those are teeny. There are OEM brakes that will make your car stop so fast you won't believe it.

Front brakes in a Front wheel drive front engined car do like 70-80% of the braking. A rear disc conversion on your car with stock fronts...well its not too effective. Doin a ITR brake setup, as Ive heard from people, is almost too much.

One guy told me that he had 11.1" fronts, 10.4" rears, and the fronts had NSX calipers on his 98 hatch, and he said not to do it because it was TOO much braking.

For you, going with good pads and good tires may make more of a difference than you think.

If you get an Integra 4-lug brake setup with semi-ceramic pads on your light hatch, thats all the braking you should need.

THe ITR takes a 5-lug brake setup with 11.1" rotors. There was a 96 ITR that took a 4-lug but dont bother getting that brake setup, too expensive. your brakes are 9.5" front rotors, rear drum brakes. Integras and Civic EXs take a 10.3" front rotor and 9.5" rear discs.

you cant swap front to back. i take it your new to civics.

If you want to just go get some better pads for now, I reccomend AEM's semi-ceramic pads. Got a set for less than 50$ and they stop wonderfully. There made in conjunction with "nissin" which is the company that makes our Honda calipers.

This is a not-done chart I'm working on. Shows how good of a front brake setup you want, from weakest to strongest. If you have one of the 10.3" front rotors, the stock Integra/Civic rear discs will be fine. If you have 11.1" or greater front rotors, you may want to upgrade the rears to 10.4" rotors.
