Brakes sticking. Not calipers
 

I have a 93 civic d16z6 ps no ac. My step dad with 25yrs of mechanical experience can't fix this but I'm hoping this a "honda issue" that you guys already know about. My cars brake tend to stick after the car gets up to temp or after 10-15minutes, Whichever comes first and then release in about 60-90 minutes I've replaced front calipers and front brake hoses and it worked for about a week with no problems then I replaced the brake booster and it didn't fix then I replaced the rear brake hoses thinking it was a rear brake issue the whole time. But it's been fine for about a week now since over replaced the rear hoses and it did it again. I've put about 300$ and 15-20hrs into the fixing of this problem. Please help

Try flushing the fluid and adjusting your booster push rod.

Empty the brake reservoir as much as you can (i have a turkey baster specifically for this). Fill the reservoir with fresh brake fluid. Bleed each caliper until the fluid is clear. I my self used the one man brake bleeder, which you can buy from any auto parts store. Basically its a bottle attached by clear hose to a needle like tip that you can insert into the brake bleeder nipple and pump the brake pedal til the bottle fills up. Dump the bottle when it gets full and repeat til each brake has clear fluid

Would it work I disconnected the brake lines and drained it that way and then hooked them back up and bled them all?

Problem with that is if you hit the brakes, you will introduce air into the brake system. If you want to do it that way, get a hose small enough to fit over the brake bleeder and stick the other end into a coke bottle with about an inch of brake fluid, open bleeder and pump the brakes. Be sure the keep the end of the hose submerged under brake fluid. Same deal...keep going til the fluid looks clean

when you guys installed the new calibers did you lube all the pins and slides with a good brake caliber pin grease. such as permatex ultra disc brake caliper lube or Versa Chem brake lube. A lot of ppl assume that the new calibers come fully pre lubricated and sadly they don't. I have personally had this issue on Reman or new calibers on my del sol when I had it. I installed one side and lubed it and a fellow student when I was in college installed the other side and did not. it ended up with me coming back from a road test with a sticking caliber

^^ just had this on the rear of the 4 door i picked up recently.. driver side was completly seized up

How do you know the brakes are sticking? Ive experienced this and it turned out that the customer installed power steering fluid in the brake system. So as stated above evacuate all old brake fluid and refill with dot 3.

Drain fluid resorvoir.
Fill with new fluid
Remove all tires
Have someone pump brake pedal 5 times and then hold down.


Now you go to passenger rear caliper and brake the 10mm nipple loose. Lock nipple and repeat the same process 5 times per wheel.


After the passenger rear is done move to driver rear, then passenger front, the driver front.


MAKE SURE THE RESOIRVOIR DOES NOT GO BELOW minimum level.
