I need to upgrade my stock brakes on my '99 Si. I need something that will fit under my stock 15's, but most importantly I need them to fit under my 13 inch Bogarts. I was thinking of keeping the stock calipers and upgradeing the pads with some Hawks or Padgets. As for the rotors there seem to be many options out there, although which to choose. I was thinking of using Brembo crossed drilled, although they don't come drilled from Brembo. Who's using crossed drilled Brembo's, and what do you think of them?
Also any suggestions would help.
Or better yet list your setups.

Question. If you are just getting blanks, why spend so much on Brembo's? Wouldn't a no name blank rotor from Autozone do just the same?

or you can try the economy "made in china" from autospeciality, which are prone to warping. i dunno much about the autozone rotors so if anyone wants to chime in feel free.

i believe that the brembo blanks are cheap enough that it there wouldn't be much point in going the no-name autozone route.

Well, the no-namer's can be about half the price. However, if they are really more prone to warping than the Brembo rotors, I suppose a little extra spending could be worthwhile. I was just curious whether Brembo blanks were that much better, I mean its just a metal disk when it all boils down to it.

**** all those kits, if you look at the results from them compared to just a brake pad upgrade, the stopping power is not that much more. Just replace the pads with some EBC (no they don't mess up the rotors) or some Axxis pads all around and you will be amazed of the difference. Make sure you break them in properly!!!!!

Yes I do need to replace my rotors. The stock rotors seem to warp to quick. I think I am going to go with Brembo blanks so far.
Any other suggestion???

for street use axxis metal master is a good pad.

For starters, there is NO SUCH THING AS A WARPED ROTORS... It is mearly uneven deposits of brake pad compound on the surface of the rotor. If they are shuddering while breaking, take them to autozone and get them re-surfaced for like $5 or somthing....
Or give it time and the Axxis pads will eat it down a little for ya!

I already resurfaced the stock rotors probably not even a year ago and put in new pads. It's time for an upgrade anyways.

I used EBC, the green stuff, on stock rotors, ended up having to resuface the rotors about every 3-4 months. If you are going to EBC, get the slotted or cross drilled rotors, it helps dissipate the heat. That's what happened to my rotors, couldn't dissipate the heat build up and therefore warping the rotors. Try out fastbrakes.com they might have something that you might be interested in.

U can get brembos for $56, well worth it in my opinion. I dont know how much the cheap autozones are but my friend just got brembo blanks and he likes them and i am planning on gettin some soon as well. For pads, i would go with AEM high performance pads. Wont wear down ur rotors as fast as axxis and u can still tell a difference from the stock pads. I was supposed to be getting AEM pads from nopi but they fucked me over and never sent them or sumthing. NE upgrade will give u more stopping power though. Its up to u.

why don't you look into a set of powerslot rotors?
I personally haven't had any experience with them but from what I've heard they are pretty good. And I believe their slotted/drilled rotors are the same price as the brembo blanks. Lets face it, with brembo's (even the blanks) your paying a bit more for the name.
When I do my brakes, I'm going with powerslot slotted and dimpled rotors with some hawk HPS pads, and a set of goodrich SS brake lines. That will be a nice upgrade IMO. Check out http://www.tirerack.com, they have the poweslot rotors.

Porterfield R4S pads (or axxis ultimates, hawk hp+, or something similar)
Motul 600 fluid or ATE blue.
Brembo blanks
Stock calipers
That's a proven recipe for much better braking without putting too much of a hurt on your wallet.


This is a suggestion that someone sent me in forced induction. It sounds good. I looked into Brembo blanks at NOPI and there only like $28.00, so that's what might do. As for pads, I had never heard Porterfield until now and on there site they also sell HAWK pads.
Has anyone ever used the crossed drilled Brembo's from Island Motorsports?
Some people say that by crossed drilling rotors meant for our cars is not safe because our rotors are too thin to begin with compared to a Porsche!
I am still deciding though.
I really appreciate all your suggestions !

I think everyone here is pretty much saying the same thing. Don't screw with the fancy kits. Keep the stock calipers, SS brake lines, get some Brembo blanks .

As far as pads, for front wheel drive cars autocrossing a proven formula has been using a pad with harder bite in the rear disks for better brake balancing. At least it has been working for me!

EBC green stuff in the front.
EBC red stuff in the rear.
