Brake Specifications
Hello everyone.
I need some help here. I was gonna do a brake job on my 1990 CRX si. But I decided to weigh some options first; I need to know the size of the 1999-2000 Civic SIR (SI in the US) front and rear brakes, and I am having a hell of a time finding the specs online. You here are the experts, so I now I can depend on all y'all!!!
Plus when I called a store for parts they asked if I wanted the 262mm or the 240mm front rotors...I was confused, did they make two different sizes or what ?!! I am using 1990 CRX si calipers for the job, so the 262mm should fit right ?!
Any suggestive help would be greatley appreciated!!

Re: Brake Specifications (JDM4EVR)
Ok so here is the situation....I want to get the 1999-2000 SIR brakes (SI for Americans), and as it stands the rear discs are not going to pose a problem.
The front discs do make a dilemma; I want the 262mm stock SIR breaks (I didn't even know they made them this big stock, but apparently they do) so now, I am not sure what caliper setup I can use. Obviously I want to use my CRX setup if I can
They (the parts supplier) don't provide the caliper bracket, so I am either going to be lucky with using my CRX bracket because it will fit OR I am going to have to track down the SIR brackets to make the SIR calipers fit because it is the only way to use the 262mm rotors. UNLESS the SIR calipers will fit my CRX brackets?! (anyone know about this?!!). Maybe and aftermarket caliper bracket is a possibility, but not a cost effective alternative mind you....
The difference in the dimension of the two competing rotors is 2 cm. I am honestly thinking (and perhaps naively) that I can get away with using the CRX calipers and brackets. I know a shop owner in my town who has the Big AEM brake rotors, and he is running a stock caliper. ...so I should be able to right?!!
Please!! Someone provide me with words of wisdom, but no false hope please!!

Re: Brake Specifications (JDM4EVR)
If you're gonna go through the trouble of upgrading all that, just keep your eyes peeled in online classifieds forums for someone selling a complete swap (just do your research to se what works). It'll be used, but you'll get everything you'll need and more. And FYI, the 262mm rotors are for the SiR and canadian Si (american EX) and the 240mm rotors are for CX and DX and whatever else.

Re: Brake Specifications (JDM4EVR)
1996-2000 Honda Civic DX, LX, CX:
240mm rotors in front, caliper called "2056"
200mm drums in the back.
1996-2000 Honda Civic EX:
262mm disc, same as ALL 94-01 Integras (cept TypeR) and same as 99-00 Si (SiR for you I guess) Bigger caliper called "5410"
Same 200mm drums in the back
99-00 Civic Si (in America)
262mm discs, like the EX. They take the same pad. Caliper called "5410". The EX and Si have the same front pads and rotors and calipers, though the Si spindles are differernt.
Rear, 239mm rear disc 9.4in, NOT the same as the DX's FRONT 240mm discs. The rear takes the same brakes essentially as 94-01 Integras (cept the Type-R). The e-brake cables on integras are a lil longer. For you, you might need a CRX Si brake cable, cause the Si's will be too long, I'm guessing here.
Hope this helps, talk to me more if you got more questions, i got a helms book from 96-00, all 1800 pages.
Mike
P.S. If you were to get the 99-00 Si brakes, you can bolt on calipers from a 94-01 Integra RS, LS, GSR, all but type-R, cause the calipers will bolt on, and integra calipers are identical cept a bigger piston, which is good.
Note that doing this all, you need a prop. valve meant for rear discs, and if you got a CRX si with rear discs, that should work. Might wanna later look into a bigger brake booster/master cylinder combo.
