brake rotor problem

I just replaced my pads and rotors today and the pads constantly rub the rotor. I thought it might be the pads but when I put back on my old pads it did the same thing. So i put my old rotors back on with the new pads and everything was fine. What could the problem be. Was I sold the wrong rotors?

did you compress the piston after you put your new pads on?

pro547 08-08-2004 06:27 PM

I just did my pads and rotors a couple of days ago and when I put on my new rotors and pads it rubbed too. You would think it would wopple but it doesn't they just need to be setted in. Everything is fine.

P.S. my english sucks

Re: brake rotor problem (RedStar101)

yes i did compress the piston all the way. it seemed to be rubbing on the outside pad

Re: brake rotor problem (reeder321)

is there anything else it could be or should i change the rotors again and see if it will settle in. I just dont want to drive with the pads rubbing because it was pretty bad. it was a constant squeeling sound and then when i jacked the car up and spun the wheel i had to force it to spin.

Re: brake rotor problem (reeder321)

your piston could be stuck. brake caliper should retract enough to clear the rotor each time you brake.

Re: brake rotor problem (2lua)

would it still work with the old rotors if it were stuck? is it stuck at the position for the old rotors?

Re: brake rotor problem (reeder321)

what do you mean the pads rub the rotor? like a touch and a light sliding? cause thats normal.

Re: brake rotor problem (Redline96LX)

it is supposed to just barely skim the rotor

if you can spin the tire with your hand easily then your good.

Did you check the actual sides for the caliper it's self?

You should of lubed them so it can move side to side.

right, the caliper has to pivot. make sure you relube the pivot bolts.

Re: brake rotor problem (IVI)

where are the pivot points? i took out the pins and lubed them and when i compress the piston all the way the caliper moves back and forth freely but once i pump the brakes and get it all charged with fluid again the rotors are almost impossible to move! could it be the piston? how hard should it be to push it back in. i have to push as hard as i can to get the piston back.

Re: brake rotor problem (reeder321)

i hope you are talking about the front only.

the rear pistons do not get PUSHED back in. i believe on our cars they are actuator typed.

you must SCREW the piston back not forceabally PUSH them.

youve probably damaged the caliper.

were there not two grooves on the piston the shape of a + ?

Re: brake rotor problem (IVI)

it wasn't the rear caliper it was the front which i am sure just push in.

Re: brake rotor problem (reeder321)

This may sound stupid but did you double check to make sure you got the right pads and have the correct rotors on? Just makin sure you did the stupid check before you go into all the trouble.

Re: brake rotor problem (Mistamike17)

yes i made sure i got the right rotors and pads which is why this is so frustrating! I dont what to have to buy new caliper too.

How was it when you torqued the wheel down and tried to turn the tire?
