Default Brake problems: deciphering between sitcking caliper pin or piston, or brake lines

I just replaced the front pads, and when i took them out I noticed that the pass. pads had worn significantly more than the driver side. The odd thing is that I didn't really have any problems with the pins or the piston. If the piston is seized, it wouldn't go back into the cylinder right? And if the pins were seized they wouldn't slide back and forth. If the area that the pads 'float' on is rusted, would that cause this problem?

I'd like to resolve the problem before bedding the pads. Any advice would be appreciated.
