i have 1996 1.5 sohc v-tech civic hatchback and my brakes are awful! for a start the abs light is on but the owner before said that it has never affected the brakes since he' had it but when i brake even softly the pedal keeps kicking back up at me and the car shudder's badly the pads look fine with plenty of use in them yet and the dics look like they will need replacing soon but i dont think it will be causing this

any help would be appreciated cheers

sounds like ur rotors might be warped....it depends on what kind of kick back it does on the brake pedal..when u press on the brakes and it comes back up on u it is the pressure of the caliper clamping the pads on the rotor and if its warped the the pressure will be uneven resulting in the up and down feel on the brake.do u do alot of heavy braking?

How does the abs light being one not affect the braking? With the abs light on you have NO abs. Maybe you should find out why that light is on and fix that problem and this just might fix your brake problem as well.

Definately check the rotors. My car used to shudder bad when i braked at high speed so i got it checked out by a couple of shops, and sure enough my rotors were warped badly. don't know about ur light though

Dealer can read the codes off ABS computer and tell you what is wrong with the system.
